Are all forklift drivers like that? The factory I used to work summers in they used to talk about the amount of work they were doing yet spent half the time lying back talking to each other.

Oxford / AstraZeneca between 74-90% efficacy and appears to be easy to store. Only at fridge temp. Already millions of doses manufacturerd. Great news
Today marks an important milestone in our fight against the pandemic. This vaccine’s efficacy and safety confirm that it will be highly effective against COVID-19 and will have an immediate impact on this public health emergency. Furthermore, the vaccine’s simple supply chain and our no-profit pledge and commitment to broad, equitable and timely access means it will be affordable and globally available supplying hundreds of millions of doses on approval.’

If I hear mental health used as an excuse to break the rules again ffs.
Mental health and then drinking alcohol on the streets.

Yeah it's getting tiresome at this stage to be honest. As sid put it earlier in the thread, it's an argument used in bad faith.

Any spikes reported in the Walkinstown area in July???!!! I hear loads of anecdotal stories about these spikes, including in a mini-scandal in my home town. The reality was different and wasn't backed up by the figures. There is no doubting some spikes do occur but I think there is a real level of COVID fatigue setting in. There is no doubt that people need to be encouraged to stick with it but at the same time once we get through this next week, I think we should then be looking to encourage people to focus on not doing what we know causes the spread rather than there being outrage when people do something that may not necessarily cause spread.

People are told to work from home and not everyone was ready to work from home. That is why the likes of Harvey Norman are open, so people can buy laptops and whatever else is needed. I personally have been to HN twice this lookdown, once looking as desks for working from home and the second to get a wifi booster for the new home office. Any issues with what I have done? Office supply shops are exactly the same, people trying to make working from home more bearable.

I have found that a lot of the younger generation who take excessive amounts of drink and drugs every weekend blame their mental health on everything. They have no problem whinging about having depression and anxiety mid week on social media and then carry on outrageously every weekend and then the cycle continues...... Its an easy out and nothing more.

Yeah you sound right. I think they appear more fragile nowadays and less resilient and going through a sticky patch or even minor inconveniences is considered a mental health crisis. . Obviously this should not be confused with genuine mental health difficulties and you are right not helping themselves with bad choices that dont improve their mental health. I hear the same stuff listening to the maternity hospital restrictions also. You would wonder how any children were born before fathers were let in to the hospital

Those vaccines have full approval and full safety records that take four or five years to achieve. These vaccines will have an emergency approvals only. Some one is not stupid for being wary of such a vaccine. Serious side effects in emergency vaccines do happen.

We should find out Wednesday when the next plan is. There is a rumour that (Conservative) Bavaria will extend the current lockdown level until December 20th. Some easing over the Christmas week.

I presume Holohan will be pushing to extend our own lockdown in some guise, either county by county of full for a further period.

I do think that a lot of unhappiness stems from the low wages, low job security, low time, high cost of housing circle The hamster on a wheel phenomenon Governments all over the world have not squared this circle Social media, the me me me culture as well as the modern phenomenon of people believing whatever they want to believe, rather than the truth, and the negative, cynical, confrontational manner of Twitter etc. exacerbates this unhappiness I do think however that there is so much talk about mental health in the media that it is probably making some people feel they are mentally ill when they are not - even if this talk is well meaning - and I think most of it is well meaning, at least in this country I am far from an expert on this but my feeling is that what I would loosely term as the "wellness industry" can be quite damaging to self esteem however - the Tony Robbins, Tony Quinns, Deepak Chopras etc. It seems to me they have fostered a belief that there should be almost a God-given right to be eternally happy, almost lobotomised - while they make a load of cash That culture seems to have almost completely permeated American society and I think is a big contributor to things like the opioid crisis Eternal happiness is not how life works, life is generally a bit sh*t, with terrible low points - and, if you're lucky - rarer high points which make it worth living The internet seems to have fostered this phenomenon of "experiences" (in the corporatised sense of the word) - everything has to be an "experience", a thrill, the internet itself has encouraged a human addiction to extreme, heightened feelings, be they happiness or sexual gratification or anger or sadness It's not healthy What Arthur Miller said in 1963 contained a lot of sense, I think Edited by sid waddell - 23 Nov 2020 at 6:53pm |
