Why does the UK have such a high death rate from the virus.
38,000 cases with 3600 deaths is like absurdly high. And it's not just elderly/vulnerable people either. We've had 13 year old boys, 30 year old healthy men and women

To quote you: Tickle me sideways and knock me down with a feather There are thousands more people in the UK that were and are affected and haven't been tested. When the UK took so long to close down it business, schools and restaurants and especially pubs. The government's delay, will have let huge community transmissions go unchecked. At a guess I would say the UK will be very high in the worst affected countries in Europe, based on population. |

It would damage this forums' reputation

As widely reported the number of cases is inaccurate and overall tested is low compared to some other countries. 91% are over 60 years - would that not be similar to other countries? Just over half of coronavirus-related deaths announced by hospitals in England so far have been people aged 80 and over, according to NHS England. As of 5pm on April 2, 1,749 (53%) of the 3,302 deaths were aged 80 or above, while 1,291 (39%) were 60-79 years old. A further 233 (7%) were aged 40-59, with 26 (1%) aged 20-39 and three (0.1%) aged 0-19. |

I get that man. I'm not that much of an idiot. The point I was getting at we have healthy young aged victims whereas typically the virus would prey on the elderly/those with health issues. Wasn't it supposed to be a fatality rate of something like 0.2% between people of the age of 18-39

There was an even split in the sex of the fatalities, as 11 were men and 11 were women. 16 of the people who died had an underlying health condition. |

Herd immunity They didn’t prepare properly or think it would come to their country until it was too late Events like Cheltenham and Liverpool v atletico, among other football matches and sporting occasions went ahead well into March Even still they haven’t closed public transport or the London Underground Lack of beds and PPE In the hospitals after years of Tory government Just some of the reasons

The tube is the main reason, but the London Underground is a factor too.

Only one of those reasons answers the question why the %’s of deaths / cases is deemed higher. But I get your point, the UK will have a high numbers of cases that could/can be avoided. I went to the shops today and the area was more busy than London city centre. |

Italy 243 Spain 235 France 100 UK 53 Ireland 24 USA 21 China 2 Obviously this is based on reported cases and why you can’t take any figure at face value but a good indictor all the same |
