Just shows the effect of the vaccine is suppose when you compare NI to Donegal!

The % is back down to 2.7% so hopefully that will settle again. There was an outbreak at a factory in North mayo as well

Not into the conspiracy theory's well the stupid ones like Bill Gates and big pharma but i think Nphet got this just right, reopen the schools after Easter and construction just enough time for the numbers to go up while they make their decisions on the summer reopening next week. Perfect timing while they make a balls of the vaccination roll out (albeit not entirely the governments fault).

A cynic might say the decision on AZ and the unexplainable delay in making a call on J&J buys them time to cover for the delay in opening mass vaccination centres. And also the number of AZ doses fits snugly with the number of 60 to 69 year olds. I expect a fudge in J&J, and see it approved for over 45/50s.

Just looking at the number of cases to find a positive spin on them. December 1st we had just below 73K cases - Now  its @ 245K.

So about 170K of recorded cases with some immunity to end of July and beyond assuming immunity lasts about 8 months... but studies suggest this can vary and is longer the stronger the immune system is.

With the majority of the 170K cases in the under 45 - stronger immune system , more socially active and with the more infectious B117  variant - I'd say there is about 400K adults out there with immunity to at least mid-summer.  Could be more depending on how you want to estimate recorded v non-recorded. Data from the walk in Centre's may nuke my theory though.

Add them to the 1m by the end of the week with 1 jab at least and the cohorts getting there's by end of June, we're not far off the 4m adults in the country vaccinated or immunity by infection.

I've often thought that alright, that those who tested positive have antibodies, and those who were never detected, but infected, also have antibodies.

Studies are also suggesting that one dose of Pfizer/Moderna combined with having recovered from the virus previously leads to huge immunity.

Last summer the cases fell quite significantly, despite there being plenty of activity in shops, sport etc. So hopefully that will naturally be the same anyways, added to another couple of million jabs and the natural immunity

You have to think we aren't far away!

You have to think we aren't far away!

Last summer we were dealing with a different virus. Much less transmissible. If you look at the sequencing of the variants, we practically crushed the original strain out of existence by June.

Different ball game this year even with the vaccines. I think we'll have to accept we won't get below 300 cases a day this summer. We have to work out how to best manage that while safely opening up to a certain degree

We may not get below 300 cases, but then again we might. The most significant numbers will be serious illness, deaths, hospitalisations etc, which the vaccine is hammering, which is fantastic.

If 80% of adults are jabbed before end of June, then daily cases should plummet, because the virus will have nowhere to go!

It's mad, I just looked there, there were 10 cases in Conancht yesterday, which is miniscule! 0 in Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim, 1 in Ros and 9 in Galway.

There’s no direct flights from India. Those who travel from India traditionally travel on the UAE/Qatar carriers, they’re on the quarantine list. Second option via Britain. Well India is on Britain’s, so you get 14 days in the Novotel in London Heathrow.
