I’d be surprised if we’re at 100/200 cases by February end tbh.

end of March maybe we will be down to 100 to 200 but restrictions will only be eased slightly . Hospitality won’t be open until way later in the year if at all.
One City,One County,One Club GUFC will be back.

The onyl Zero Covid strategy is eradicating it via the vaccine.

Disagree, the vacinne rollout should be a part (a large part) of the wider strategy to eliminate Covid in the community. Martin on the radio yesterday saying restrictions could start to be lifted when we get to '100-200' cases a day!

That's extremely dangerous. Why not hold of another few weeks until we supres it right down to less than 10 cases a day?
But by the time we get down to 100-200 you're talking late Feb anyway, at that stage we'll have the most vulnerable vaccinated, you have to start opening up at that stage. Would be hoping we're done with 5k and schools closed by Paddys day, even if there is still 100-200

You don’t have to start opening at that stage. Some of the most vulnerable to die of the virus will have received the vaccine but plenty of vulnerable people won’t be vaccinated til well later in the year. And frankly you don’t know whether you are vulnerable until you are in hospital with it after getting it.

Rolling lockdowns aren’t going to help businesses. We need to keep these restrictions in place, including the 5k limits, until we are down to double figures and then this could be our last lockdown

Slightly ahead of schedule, which is good. EU playing hardball with Astra Zeneca, so I would expect some sort of good news there at some stage.

Very positive vaccine news: Israeli HMO Maccabi reports just 20 positive coronavirus tests out of 128,000 people who had their second Pfizer shot a week or more ago. None of the 20 were serious cases.

looks like bad news tonight with rumours that EMA will not approve the AstraZeneca vaccine for over 65s.  This is a major setback to the plan.  Rumored that the efficacy is poor in over 65s

Ya seen that, only eight percent effective in over 65s. Great news from Israel though, they have closed their borders now too. These new variants are absoloute bastards. Moderns currently developing a booster shot

It seems the journalist who tweeted this story has backed down somewhat. If it's true, it could result a twin track approach, AZ for U65s and Pfizer/Moderna for the O65s. I felt all along a twin track approach is a possible option as soon as the first 3 groups are sorted...

AZ have issued a statement saying not true.   Reports are coming from media in Germany.

Hopefully this turns out to be not true.  It’s a disaster if it’s true.

It's unlikely to be true but if it is it's a sizeable setback, but it's not a disaster. We still have two other vaccines which as said above can be used for over 65s.

Would it not make much more sense to give the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines - that had always been known to be more effective - to the most vulnerable?

Would be a disaster for any over 65s that have been vaccinated it in countries where it has been approved but that’s it.

Anyway, doubt it’s true. It’s gotten approved in a multitude of districts

Ideally you want everybody over 70 to get the Pfizer / Moderna vaccines as they are high efficiency , 90% +

The AZ is much less (between 60-70) so should be given to people under 70 IMO.

But with the race against time one dose / AZ etc is better than nothing.

1.3m odd doses.

It's a set back alright. But one that can be overcome
