Why is it only one HSE doctor though? Is it because they are afraid to speak out? If so, why?

Think you answered your own question in the first sentence Here's the thing, none of these self-styled "sceptics" ever tell us what should happen and why, they merely throw stones from the sidelines We do NOT have draconian restrictions and that is a fact The schools are open, pubs are being opened up from this Monday, pubs which serve food have been open since June Restrictions on spectators at sporting events are an inconvenience, but people can play sport Live music events being called off is an entirely necessary inconvenience, you cannot herd 500 people or 1,000 people or 10,000 people into a venue, all in close proximity to each other, that would be very stupid Being asked to wear a mask on public transport and in shops is a very minor inconvenience For many, working from home is a convenience Low wage workers are already treated like sh*t, being piled onto buses with no distancing go go to work in meat processing plants - that's literally the opposite of restrictions - that's flagrant disregard for workers and highly dangerous The best way to destroy an economy which is already struggling is to let the virus rip by lifting restrictions and overwhelming the health service Even as it is, the numbers in hospitals are going steadily up, and that's likely to increase, especially with pubs opening Let's be clear what these "anti-restrictions" people want - they want no masks, no distancing, no restrictions, for life to go back to just the way it was But that's impossible, unless we went for the Zero Covid strategy, and even under that there would still be restrictions And I have not heard any of the anti-restrictions crackpots advocate the Zero Covid strategy An uncontrollable nostalgia for "normal life" has overpowered some people's senses in the face of medical reality You can't wish away a pandemic This thing about suicides - what do people think would have happened as regards suicides and mental health had the virus been let rip in the spring and we had three or four times the death rate we had? What do people think would have happened to the economy in the spring had we let the virus rip and had three or four times the death rates, it would have collapsed completely What do people think would have happened to people with other illnesses in the spring had we let the virus rip - illnesses would still have gone undiagnosed, and probably in much larger numbers, and more of those people with existing or undiagnosed illnesses would have died These so called "sceptics" are peddling easy answers here when there are no easy answers It's medical Trumpism and a massive grift |

I agree, but I didn't want to be entirely dismissive. Medical opinion is never going to be 100% on anything and science is constantly changing. What we know now could be worthless by next week and there's always a chance that one expert is right and thousands are wrong, but it feels like there are doctors who like having their name in lights and plenty of people willing to put their name in lights as it suits their agenda.
The fact that Karol Sikora became one of the leading voices in this pandemic should be proof enough of that. |

4000 cases in the UK today.
Case rises are exactly in line with the 2nd waves in Spain and France so projections are 10,000 daily by next weekend

Just heard on the news that the legislation covering the €9 meal and preventing certain establishments opening including casinos and nightclubs lapsed at midnight. There is currently no legal basis to prevent them from operating as normal.

Right call too! Worrying trends in the capital that needs to be brought under control. Rising in most cases which is worrying but hopefully things can be brought under control. Things may only get worse with colleges going back too.

Nphet calling Dublin a "Disease Reservoir" not very helpful if trying to coax Dubliners into following their dictates.

I'm devastated like I've had 1 night out since March and was due for a meetup in the Tyneside Irish Centre for a wee all night bender. But I'm also not surprised from what happened over here in Sunderland, there's a lad who tested positive last Wednesday and decided his symptoms will have disappeared by the weekend and went out on the lash in Town with his positive case pretty much single handedly infecting everyone who was out in Town that night, not only was it stupid of the highest order but dangerous! I think this may have been the straw which broke the camel's back for Health Ministers to say these boomers can't be trusted to have a night out.

The government is making a right balls of this.
Looking at gov.ie, it seems that so called wet pubs can open in both level 2 and 3. But yet Dublin are in level 2 or 2.5 and heading for 3 but yet the wet pubs still can't open. Do I have that right? Was suppose to have a night out next week. Was thinking of heading to naas in case pubs would be closed here but now might not even supposed to leave Dublin

Can we get real, please. What difference is this going to do? It’ll do f**k all. What’ll encourage is people to leave pubs early and head to their house and drink instead, with no social distancing in place that you’d find out in restaurants. Further destroying pubs and restaurants who are struggling to survive. First time around we where told ICUs would be maxed, they weren’t, we’d run out of ventilators, we didn’t. The reality is we treat Covid much better than we did many months ago.
Also, the Irish government is a f**king disgrace. Ryanair gave them a good battering in court today. Edited by Olaf - 16 Sep 2020 at 11:19pm |
