Damn - he played some really good stuff on Saturday. Best I've seen him play.

Cant find any information on how long he'll be out for.

This is the killer with being a small nation in footballing terms.
We just don't have the numbers to support many injuries and this year has been particularly bad and this is a blow to the 21s and the lad's development.

Gutted at hearing this.

It’s just incredible the ill fortune we are getting at the moment. For a small nation then too.

"As was the case with previous dual-eligible stars Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, the English FA made enquiries about Smallbone’s allegiance once he broke into the Saints first-team.

But he snubbed their advances to remain in the Ireland fold, following up his appearances at youth level by starting in the 2-0 defeat to Italy in Pisa."

I see John Fallon is making things up again.

really bad news for us and for the lad himself obviously. Hope he bounces back stronger from this as he looks a class act with bags of potential

Just appalling bad luck. It just feels like we're in a real malaise at the moment where nothing is going right for us.

Terrible luck for him but he wasn't realistically going to figure for us over the next 6 months for a couple of reasons so it's not that catastrophic on a macro level.

IDK when the next U-21 fixtures are. He'll be a big miss for them alright.

You really have to feel for the lad who is just making his way in the game .
Lansdowne Road debut aged 52 and 201 days .

I dunno, I would have had him in the senior squad. We need to start bringing these lads through. The longer we leave it the worse it's going to get.

Bringing the likes Arter and Horgan back into the fold, as Kenny has done, is a pointless exercise, in my view.

Under 21s are supposed to be back in action in March, but I wouldn't be surprised if those games are postponed until the summer or later.

I don't think Smallbone had done enough to warrant a senior call up yet. If he comes back well from the injury he's still a decent prospect for us though.

Played the first half in the Papa John's Trophy tonight looking like a dead ringer for Jonjo Shelvey.
