Since Hojbjerg has stalled on his contract he has jumped ahead of him in the pecking order. Good thing as Hojbjerg slows down play too much

Seems to be first reserve at Southampton for the wide midfield positions now (with another Irish underage international Will Ferry, who is arguably more highly rated in the Irish setup, being the second reserve).
Southampton aren't expected to be big spenders this summer so there should be plenty of opportunities for the two of them next season, especially with Stuart Armstrong's longer term injury issues and inability to string a run of games together.

thought he used the ball very well anytime he got it last night. Didn't lose it very often. Good sign that he is being used in most games now off the bench.

70+ caps for England at underage.
He's a quality player though. |

He was actually quite adamant recently saying well my mum is actually fully Irish so I do think this lad will be fine. I have actually noticed a trend that most of these lads pick their mothers country in a push.

It's worked well with Michael Obafemi, both he and his parents were delighted by that early cap and the other nations he was eligible to play for can only look on now as his Premiership career takes off. Smallbone is another for a potential fast track and the Irish influence at Southampton is surely helpful if he is thinking of wavering. Stephen Kenny will know the score and do what's best.
