Infairness to the Laois County Board, they're after building a state of the art centre of excellence, installing new floodlights and they've turned O'Moore Park into one of the top grounds in the country all on very little financial backing from wealthy businessmen or foreign backers.

I do get where he's coming from to an extent, especially when he spoke about how an extra bit of money would go a long way in terms of preparing the team. There is most definitely truth in what he said about some players in squads being beyond mean and wouldn't be inclined to throw a few quid into a player kitty if it meant it was all pumped back into the squad.

Parkinson did an interview with Eddie Brennan then when they were finished they went onto have a personal chat about things. Brennan said before they started talking casually that this was off the record but it went out on the podcast. Parkinson blamed the editor.

Five minute conversation slating the Laois Co board and naming people etc etc. Private chat between 2 people who obviously know each other but it got released. Seems a genuine mistake but you wouldn't know. It's been taken out now

Massive weekend in the hurling. Saturday we have the 2x Round 2 All Ireland Qualifers and the Leinster Final and Sunday its the Munster final

All Ireland Qualifiers Round 2
Wexford vs Clare- Sat 14th Nov 2pm- Being billed as Davy vs Lohan, Clare were fairly bad against Laois in round 1 and could of lost the game and as we know Wexford were well below par in there Leinster semi final against Galway. Have to fancy Wexford to do it as they will be fired up for this. Clare for some reason dont have the firepower and rely took much on Tony Kelly. Wexford by 7

Tipp vs Cork- Sat 14th Nov 4pm- Cork were good enough against a bad Dublin team last week and will no doubt be up for the challenge. Tipp will want to go out and impress after losing out too limerick in Munster. Think the 3 weeks in a row will catch up on Cork and Tipp will exploit that. Tipp by 5

Leinster final
Galway vs Kilkenny- Sat 14th Nov 6.15pm- Could be a classic, Galway look very impressive this year since the inter county return and will be fired up for this one. Kilkenny started well against Dublin but badly faded near the end and were lucky to get the win. Cody will have them fired up no doubt and if both teams are at there best could be a great game. Galway by 3

Munster final
Limerick vs Waterford- Sun 15th Nov 4pm- As a Waterford man im very happy to be in a Munster final in which we have a free shot and an All Ireland QF to fall back on,So far Cahills reign has been very good and we look like a different team compared to last year. TBD, Jamie Barron and Callum Lyons are flying atm but my god do we have a big challenge in Limerick. Limerick are by doubt the best squad in the country atm and have the ability to hammer any team. Feel this game could be like last years League final and Waterford won't be able to get on top cause Limerick are just so good. Sadly think it will be Limerick by 8. Be very happy if Waterford put in a good display

Good win for Antrim v Kerry in the Joe Mc cup. Seems almost certain Antrim playing in Croke park on All Ireland final day. Lovely.

Great win for Antrim alright and barring freak results in the other games they are almost sure of a place in the final in Croke Park. Kerry vs Carlow on round 4 next week is a massive game and almost a playoff for a final place. Also massive congrats to all the lower tier teams who made it through to there finals esp Down who beat Offaly on penalties. Offaly Hurling is in a very bad place atm

Clare very good today against Wexford with Tony Kelly putting in another massive display. Think now is the time for Davy to call it quits with Wexford, think he brought them as far as he can. Clare will be a good challenge in the QFs

Tipp show why there champions today against Cork in what can be described as a mixed game. Cork had there chances to grab the lead but sadly when they got them they couldn't hold on. Tipp moving up gears slowly and will be a force in the QFs

Great leinster final with it been very close and Galway had there chances but Kilkenny punished them and deserved the win. Kilkenny never give up and out of nowhere they can get back into the game and win it. Cody delighted too

Roll on the Munster final tomorrow and hopefully Waterford put it up to Limerick

Championship is pretty open now going into the final 6

Waterford favourites tomorrow and its a tag i don't like. Clare have momentum on there side and are blessed to have a player like Tony Kelly who is on fire atm. If Waterford can click tomorrow then we could win but it won't be easy. Cahill doesn't take morale victories and no doubt the players will be fired up

Galway vs Tipp is hard too call, Galway fecked the game away last weekend and they will want to bounce back. Tipp weren't at there best for large periods of the game last weekend but they can turn it on when needed. We all know about Galway that they can either be brilliant or they could easily implode

Kerry vs Carlow is a big game in the JM cup with Kerry needing a win to stay in the competition and Carlow will move into a great position to get too the final against Antrim if they can win

Sunday sees the finals of the Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard cups. In the Nicky Rackard cup its Donegal vs Mayo (how odd that its hurling) and whoever wins that will get promotion to the Christy Ring cup for 2021. Unlike in the Christy Ring final between Kildare and Down where both teams have been promoted to the Joe Mcdonagh cup for 2021. Reckon Offaly are bulling for fecking up last week

Galway v Tipp will surely be close, it always is

But on the evidence of the teams' previous matches, I know who I'd trust to dig out a victory in the last ten minutes

Galway collapsed against Kilkenny and there's no getting away from it, Tipp's forwards remain razor sharp

All this is academic as Limerick are going to walk this All-Ireland, they'll steamroll everybody in their path

Strangely enough Galway v Kilkenny has never done it for me as a rivalry

Whereas Galway v Tipp is always box office, goes back to the 80s, as a rivalry it has never really let up

Tipp are Galway's biggest rivals by a million miles

Galway would probably be Tipp's second biggest rivals after Kilkenny, much more needle in Galway v Tipp clashes than Cork v Tipp, maybe even more than Kilkenny v Tipp

If Tony Kelly is on form tomorrow anything could happen, rumours that John Conlon will be playing too which would be a huge addition for us. Could go either way but I wouldn’t be too confident

Think I slightly fancy Clare to win based on their momentum

It's great to see Kelly finally take on the leadership role and thrive

But also good to see Waterford back as a force

On a line through Limerick you'd say Waterford, but it's very unpredictable

Both games tomorrow are wide open, you'd have to say, as they say in hurling

Totally agree Galway v Tipp is a great rivalry. Some great games in the late 80’s early 90’s and some great characters on both teams! All the Tipp team from those years went to the funeral of Tony Keady in 2017 which was good to see.

Just looking through it, they met in:
1987 AI Semi final - Galway won
1988 AI Final - Galway won
1989 AI Semi Final - Tipp won
1990 - no
1991 AI Semi Final - Tipp won
1992 - no
1993 AI Semi Final - Galway won

Meeting 5 years out of 7 in those days was unusual,

It's a very even rivalry

They also met in
2000 quarter-final - Galway won by 2 or 3
2001 final - Tipp by 3
2005 quarter-final - Galway won by 4 or 5 in a great comeback
2010 quarter-final - Tipp won by 1 in a classic
2014 qualifiers - Tipp won by 6 or 7 having been I think 8 or 9 down
2015 semi-final - Galway by 1 in a classic
2016 semi-final - Tipp by 2 in another ding donger
2017 semi-final - Galway by 1 in another classic

I'd like to watch that 2017 semi-final again as my recollection of it is that while it was not especially high scoring by modern standards, the second half was the sort of old style blood and thunder battle that you don't see that much of anymore, Gearoid McInerney's performance was a stand out

Joe Canning got Hurler of The Year almost purely based on the last 15 minutes of that match, having been terrible up to that

His winning point was the stuff of legend

Compulsory helmets have made hurlers much less recognisable

The Waterford team of the 2000s was the last team that contained a lot of very recognisable characters - because they didn't wear helmets - Shanahan, Mullane, McGrath, Browne. Eoin Kelly etc.

There are very few hurlers these days who have the sort of casual mainstream sports fan recognition that those lads would have had, ie. the cliched "crossover appeal"

Joe Canning would be a rare exception

The most recognisable figures in hurling now are the managers

However there are no more instantly recognisable characters like Shanahan, Mullane, Leahy, Ciaran Carey, Martin Storey, Teddy McCarthy, Johnny Pilkington, Gerry McInerney, John Power and the likes

Yes it might be more safe but hurling has lost an awful lot with players no longer being instantly recognisable
