Good, can't have an alien like that starting up front for us. The head on him.

I think the key to qualifying is Doherty starting instead of Coleman and Glenn Whelan not starting . If Mick has the balls to make them changes we'll have a far better chance to qualifying

I'd like to see this team but to be honest as long as Whelan and mcclean are nowhere near the team we should be ok. Randolph Duffy Egan Clark Molumby McCarthy Cullen Doherty Stevens Mcgoldrick Long

The big problem I see with this team (and I like it by the way- though Hendrick is a certainty over one of Cullen or Molumby) is that you could give Mick 344 goes at picking different first 11's, and he still wouldn't pick this one. |

Randolph Doherty Egan Duffy Stevens Hendrick McCarthy Hourihane Long McGoldrick McClean -- I think McCarthy/Long will start if they keep up their club form

Or by default. We can do is draw 1-1 our way to Euro Finals glory. I know Mick believes it.

100% McClean will start and we won't be playing 3-5-2 formation. Not much will change. Coleman will start when he shouldn't be starting and wouldn't be surprised to see Whelan start which definitely should not happen

Agree with this. Not the most inspiring team but I'd say it's the most likely. May end up with Coleman instead of Doherty but other than that I'd say this will be close to spot on.

Long and McGoldrick both won't start even though McGoldrick can slot in behind him. Can't see him playing Long on the right plus it would be a waste imo.
Coleman will start unless he's injured.

Wishful thinking, but would love to see this team. RWB - Doherty LWB - Stevens CB - Egan CB - Duffy CB - Clark CM - Cullen/Molumby CM - McCarthy RW - Robinson/Maguire LW - Connolly ST - McGoldrick |

I'd have Long at RW but wouldn't largely disagree with the rest

Was nodding in agreement until I saw the RW
Not sure I’d have long there either mind you Robinson’s been more miss than hit for us and I’m not convinced with Maguire

I'd have no problem with Shane Long starting, now that's he's got his place back for Southampton.
As I said on a previous thread I really think a 5-4-1 would be an excellent formation for us. Lets call a spade a spade, our midfield has been redundant for years now and we don't play a modern brand of ball where midfield is crucial to how we play so let's utilize other areas of the pitch and just by compact in midfield. 5-4-1 defending to 3-4-3 attacking. It's a dream for any side who plays a direct brand because even when out of possession you're still somewhat solid and have numbers back and when you're attacking you have extra bodies up in support to our front men. If anyone watches how we play they will see massive gaps between our midfield and attack, then wonder why McGoldrick or our wingers are always isolated and often left 4 vs 1/3 vs 1. |
