Athletes maybe but not better.  Tony Adams would be a top defender today.
Merson was decent but not great.  What about Cantona, Ginola, Rush, Aldridge, Barnes, Gazza, Robson, Irwin, Moran, Lineker, Hughes...

And look at the likes of defenders now. David Luiz.  A joke.  50 million a few years back.  Neymar.  Modern players are better conditioned but worse technically, mentally and physically as in toughness.

If you talk to someone who thinks Neymar is a useless show pony and not in the top 5 players on earth it’s a great indicator to remove anything this person says about football immediately from your mind, even as they say it.

Neymar is a fool and is the poster boy of the modern footballer.

And one of the best footballers on the planet that sadly Ireland would never be able to produce but if we did, we would worship him as a God.

Neymars an idiot yes but one of the best on the planet along with Ronaldo and Messi still in the top 3 players playing the sport.

An outrageous talent who would have actually thrived in the old game with characters to set him straight out him in his place.

I think this team will face Slovakia - if all are fit.

I'd be happy with that team.

Predictable but interesting quote from Stephen Kenny. Are bookies laying odds on both starting?

They should do, it would be easy money for them from the people backing they will both start

Connolly starts for BHA today at Everton and I can't watch in case he gets an injury Shocked
Get through it, Aaron!

Oh, to add, wonder if we'll see Robbie later for Burnley.
If not then he'll have had no prep and can't be considered anything more than an option late on from the bench on Thursday.
Should see Jeff anyway and hope he puts in a good game Thumbs Up

As much of a loss as Coleman is, it's the 1 place were we have a very good alternative.

Darragh Lenihan didn't play for Blackburn today, reported to have picked up a ' slight injury ' in training. No indication from the club as to how long he might be unfit.

It could also be an imminent transfer also. He was linked to Sheffield United in January and they are supposed to be looking for another centre back
