He wasn't called up to the Slovakia squad because he's playing in China currently and would have to quarantine for 3 weeks after returning. He'll be called up for the playoff though.
Ah fair enough, he could pose us trouble.

Probably right.

I still would much prefer 2 up front, I would worry about us scoring at all with our lack of goal threat. McGoldrick is slow and poor in front of goal, and Connolly will probably get  smuggled up out on the left.

Kenny needs to find some way to help us score goals or we are toast against Slovaks.

Yup - would agree with that assessment. The main issue with the midfield three you have selected above is that we won't have a specialist set piece taker and, given our well documented issues with scoring, that could be a huge problem.

If we're be honest, I can't really say the set pieces from Hourihane and Brady have been that good that it would warrant a place in the team...

Any thoughts on Brady going back to left full?

Or switching Doherty to left full.

Stevens has looked dodgy in green.

We need to take a chance or two (probably) when we get them. Yesterday we missed four decent chances in Mc Goldrick wanting to many touches, Robinson trying to put his chance through the torso of the keeper, Connolly not reacting/anticipating the flight of the ball and big Shane not scoring with his head from 6 yards this time. One save the keeper had to make from them efforts.

Easy to say now but goals change games. Next month we need to put them away.

Totally agree with this.
The margins are tiny - Connolly scores that good chance on Thursday and the whole two games take on a different complexion.

I see no issues with that.  I reckon it will be close to thr team with possibly Doherty at right full

By the way I don't get why people are saying Slovakia are much better than Bulgaria and Finland.

Finland qualified out of a tricky group of Italy Greece and Bosnia.

I'd rather Brady, at least as good on set pieces, better passer and can create. Conor has a tendency to go missing for 20/30 mins in a game. Think he'll stick with Doherty however.

I don't see where the goals are going to come from especially with the players mentioned and the way we set up. I also think James Collins should be back in the squad ahead of Sean Maguire or Shane Long.

Collins is the only striker we have who has consisently scored goals at club level in recent years, he has nearly 60 goals for Luton since 2017 and is scoring 1 per 2 games ratio. None of other players come close to that. I know most fans don't rate him but his goals record speaks for itself.

If we're depending on McGoldrick, Maguire, Idah and Long for goals we're f**ked.

The formation doesn't allow Brady to play in his position and he just isn't suited to playing centrally at all. It is unfortunate as I do think he is our most natural footballer. I agree on Hourihane, but I think he is the lesser of two evils. His set-pieces are usually of a decent standard too, albeit not in Bulgaria.

                   Randolph
  Doherty Clark Duffy Egan Stevens
          Hendrick McCarthy Hourihane
             McGoldrick Connolly

Brady Interchangeable with Hendrick/Hourihane.
Feel if you want to have two wing backs in the team, then you need to play them as wing backs.

In theory this system best suits doherty and stevens. Does not look like it will happen tho. After his performance yesterday id maybe have Arter in for McCarthy but you would have to see who gets gametime between now and then.

I don’t think Shane Long should be ruled out starting, even potentially out wide. If either him or McGoldrick are starting, playing well and score a couple of goals in the next month, they’ll be in pole position.

I think Coleman will be selected ahead of Doherty but again club form will decide it.

Yeah I am surprised that Kenny didnt try  long at some stage as the right side of the three.  Playing narrow but on the right.  He played there against Italy in Lille.

I just dont see Long in a wide role of a front 3. Nah. Either as a main striker/target man or the bench. Im not saying it might not work but i dont think that role would suit him. Hasn't got the trickery required.
