French media reporting Scotland Japan match is off.
What a dumb idea to organise the world cup during typhoon season.

If this happens they might as well pack up and go home. Complete farce. You cant have teams going through that may not if the game was played as in japan scotland. Surely it wont come to pass. Surely.

We'll know in the morning for sure. World Rugby is holding a presser at 4am to announce their decision.

If new zealand were in danger of going out on a technicality then yoy can be sure something wud be done weather or no weather. I predict no games will be cancelled. Postponed possibly.

This would suit both teams but not their QF opponents. Wales will play two games (9th and 13th) since France last played (6th) - if this is true and they play each other in the QF.

I suspect both England and France are happy with the cancellation and have agree to it. More days rest for the 1/4 final. Japan v Scotland must go ahead.

It is a farce .. privately Wales and Australia will be canvassing to have their games cancelled also.... But the important US Tonga and Canada Namibia will go ahead as planned. Common sense moves Scotland Japan to an available brand appropriate stadium and the decision is made today - the one Ireland is playing in on Saturday.

The biggest issue is fan safety, it would appear, as the storm is expected to have passed by Sunday. In that instance they should play it behind closed doors.

Sure, isn't that why they brought they brought the 2002 football world cup forward a couple of weeks - to avoid the start of the storm season. Whatever we say about FIFA holding their tournaments in unsuitable or risky climates, at least they've had a bit of sense to move the tournaments to less risky times of the year (ie the aforementioned 2002 WC 2 weeks earlier and the 2022 WC in Qatar to the winter). The rugby & athletics authorities, on the other hand, have basically just proven themselves in the space of a few weeks to be not just corrupt (like FIFA) but also incredibly stupid in not moving their events to more suitable times of the year. Who thought any organisation could make FIFA look relatively good?

That is true, awarding a football tournament to a tiny country with a totally unsuitable (at best) climate in the tournament's normal time of year was indeed a special kind of 'dumb'. Just like the decision to award the world athletics championship there. My point is that the real stupidity was the decisions of the IRB & IAAF not to move their respective events to less risky times of the year. Now those chickens have come home to roost. |

To be fair, none of the games cancelled so far will have any material outcome on the tournament.
It is ridiculous tho that they couldn't have moved the games to the other side of the country, put it on behind closed doors or something. One of the stadiums is indoor isn't it? I'd imagine if it happened during the knockout stage they'd have found a way.

So the Italians head home now instead of hanging around until the weekend.
In the record books do Italy now have a draw against New Zealand? |
