In fairness the world cup in 2002 wasn't the same as 1990, 1994. I was getting up at 7am to watch Cameroon v THE EIRE and watching the game eating my breakfast on the couch. That being said it's definitely low key than expected. I agree it's like it isn't even on.

It's absolutely the time difference. It had the same buzz killing impact back at the World Cup in 2002 - and Ireland even had a decent tournament at that one!

I was in Vancouver for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and had the same problem. Once the knockouts start, it gets easier to keep track of games.

Today’s game slightly increases the likelyhood of us having to take an early flight home from Japan. However, it’s within our hands, and the Keith Earls BP saving tackle against Japan may be the most move of the entire tournament for us.

It does - but it also slightly increases our likelihood of topping the group as well. If Scotland hadn't secured the four try bonus point against Russia then they would have needed to beat Japan with the four try bonus point - and deny them a losing bonus point. As it is, they now need to just focus on beating Japan with any amount of tries as long as they still deny them a losing bonus point. It's a much more realistic prospect for them and the bookies have them as marginal 2 point favourites to win that game. If that comes to pass then a bonus point win for Ireland over Samoa the day before clinches top spot as it would leave us on 16 points whilst the Scots can only reach a maximum of 15. As you say the Earls tackle could prove to be crucial - and as for those lunatics that felt Carbery should have attempted to run the length of the pitch instead of kicking it out to secure that losing bonus point...

Absolutely bizarre that Japan didn't go for a drop goal from that scrum straight after to take the bonus point off us.

I was strange, when you think about it! Especially as, in spite of the performance, Japan only crossed the line once. In spite of the generally poor performances, our defence has held up well.

Fiji giving Wales a good game here.
Although Wales has a try harshly ruled out. It was too close to call if his boot went out of touch. Scotland v Japan will be a close game. The extra days rest for Japan might be key in the last 20 mins.

Would be beyond the realm of farce if matches are postponed and there was no contingency to have them moved written into the rules. Would damage its credibility in a huge way.

If this WC was been held in Scotland, no way would Scotland-Japan be called off if it meant Scotland went out.

There will be no called off games in this WC. No way could that scenario with points at stake happen. Whatever needed to happen will happen. There would be uproar.
