I'd agree he's more an 8 then a 10 as such. Allowing for that he was a shadow he was playing as a 10 in previous windows too.
Smallbone Ronan and potentially Azaz are the obvious 3 we have to jump forward for that 10 position. Felt sorry for Smallbone tonight only when Azaz came on had he someone to link up with and we finished off the game okay.

If he had just let him play ball with Connolly and Azaz in both legs, we may well have won, Israel were not great at all.

Sounds like he is playing in CM. It would be so good for him and us if he can nail that position down his development can kick on from there.

A bit of luck a move happens in January. Derby will get decent compensation if he moves to another English club next summer but get pittance if he were to move abroad.
Could take the risk that whatever interest was there with potential German clubs was just paper talk or sell for around £2m. |

Knight not in the Derby squad tonight; Hourihane only on the bench.

Yeah went off injured after 37' vs Man City's U21s during the week. Knee injury, apparently not serious. Why he even started that game is beyond me.

Said to be out for about a month with an ankle/knee injury. "...Davies needs to undergo an op that will keep him out for a month. Winger Tom Barkhuizen is expected to be out for a similar timeframe with a hamstring injury while Jason Knight is also out for the same time with an ankle/knee injury." Not sure if it's a month from when he got injured (Oct 18th) or a month from now (Article is from 2 days ago), another article posted yesterday also says "out for a month", so it looks like he's out of the November Test Matches. |

We need to look at options in that more attacking cm role in any case, Smallbone and Azaz maybe to share those minutes. Mandroiu? Likely too early.

Against Malta would like to see Smallbone get minutes in that Hendrick role next to Cullen. When he started ahead of Kilkenny in that role for the U21s he was good. Malta are pot 5/league D, don't need another workhorse defensively minded player in there with Cullen.

Only a sub for Derby today, he needs to find some form, he should be standing out in L1, instead he is just utility player and can’t see him playing championship football next season unless Derby are promoted.

"Paul Warne has confirmed to @BBCDerbySport that Jason Knight has an option in his contract that they can use to extend so no worries there. It's in club's control"

He needs to move badly. No good for his development playing in league one.

Ours lads are too loyal, the likes of Coleman and Egan could have pushed for bigger moves in their career but opted to stay where they were. Knight is firmly in that bracket if he doesn't get out of Derby.

Derby will probably go up by the play offs anyway. They are on a roll now. Wheres he gonna move to? Who says there was any real bigger clubs knocking their door down.

Love Knight as a player and when he's on it, he looks very good but is he doing enough in L1 to suggest he is wasting away there? As an Ireland fan I'd love this to be the case and I personally feel he can do well in a better league, but the narrative that he is staying out of loyalty and better teams want him...well, is this true?

agreed, we get notions of our players that are rarely matched. Knight is a really good player but Prem & Champ are full of good players. He’s good enough for Championship and he’s part of a good club targeting that. Hopefully both achieve it.
