Southampton lose 2-1 - Russell Martin really is all kinds of a clown, I have said it on other threads, he'll be gone before Christmas, complete bluffer!

Hes less than useless defensively, just saunters around never trying a leg to get back into position and defend in any capacity.

I do not and never will get the love in for him, not as a defensive player at LB or LWB.

He definitely has issues, see thread hereunder re his start at the Saints - a lot of criticism

Who's been referring to him as a defensive player?

He's a creative midfielder being played at LWB/LB. Indeed, he was the most creative player in the Championship last season (108 key passes in 43 games).

He minds the ball and uses it well, he's good at winning fouls (2nd most fouled player last season, Ogbene was 3rd) which can help take pressure off a team under the cosh.

Yes, he's defensively weak, and lacks pace. Something that will definitely get more exposed in a back 4.
But if you can find ways to mitigate those risks then he's a very handy player to have.

I’m sure they will find a way to blame Bazunu.

"They" certainly will for the 3rd

Of all the teams I saw live last season against Wolves I think Southampton were by far the worst defensively. Just no idea about defensive positioning and a structure that isn't all out chaos. Of course we only scored one goal against them though as we couldn't score to save our lives. Baz even saved them a number of times that game due due to his sweeping as they were playing such a high line.

I thought it would improve in the champiomship with a new manager but apparently not yet.

The two signings were paramount and actually give them a chance of going up.

Hopefully them bringing in Harwood-Bellis will give Bazunu a bit more protection in front of him, that's a very good signing at Championship level.

Did you see today's game or the season opener? He was very involved in both.
The middle two in fact!

I think this is always the case, he's decent in possession, it's why Russell Martin likes him. The problem is he can still be a car crash defensively. In the upcoming games vs the French and the Dutch where we will have limited possession, I'm not sure Manning is the right call.
