His first appearance for Bournemouth in 2022, which is mad, pity it hasn't worked out for him the past 4 months.
I think he defo needs to get out of Bournemouth if he wants to play regularly next season. Bournemouth are just going to strengthen the squad again with the Premier League money, if he can break into the side now, he defo won't next season. What club would suit him to go to next season? that he would play regularly and the style would would him also?

With them securing promotion in the previous game I was hoping Kilkenny would get the final game, so this is good to see.
Swansea maybe?

Ya Swansea are known for being a good football playing team. With the Irish lads there already he could settle in well, he would probably know Obafemi well enough from playing in the U-21s. What is the competition like in the central midfield areas at Swansea tho?

Strange season for him, didn't play much at all after the first two or three months. But on the other hand has shown he is a very capable player at championship level when he has played. Considering he wasn't even really on anyone's radar this time last year it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Should probably stay at Bournemouth for the start of pre-season anyway, just to get a sense of where he is in case he has a chance of making the squad there. He probably won't and will end up going on loan, but this time last year he didn't look like he'd feature in the Championship and then got a good run in pre-season so you'd never know. He's probably more suited to the premier league than the lower divisions in terms of his build and style of play.
If he goes on loan a team that passes the ball more like a Swansea would suit alright.

Nah, Bournemouth are signing more CMs, it's clear as day Kilkenny won't get games there next season. He should be out the door as early as possible and do pre-season at his loan club. Dragging his feet again could land him in another situation like January where he almost gets a loan but it falls through last minute and he's stuck again not playing any football. If he's playing well & regularly at Championship level then I think he's certainly pushing for a spot in the Ireland squad.

After Cullen's progress at Anderlecht, would it be a bad thing for Kilkenny to get a spell on the continent? He's probably trying to become a similar player to Cullen. Cullen had a better profile than Kilkenny does now with plenty Championship and League One games to his name so it could be viewed as a risk for clubs on the continent. Bournemouth are clearly moulding him into a role so maybe they'd prefer to have him closer by. Reading, Bristol City.. hopefully he will have plenty options.

Continent would be absolutely perfect for him not as pyshical as the Championship for a start. Pray he gets a loan move next season for a full 30 plus games. Lad needs it and proved he's more then good enough for the Championship this season.
If staying in England Swansea or another club that play 3 and the back would suit think having 3 CBs in front of him would suit him. Also think the way Ireland play is tailor made for him. He will only get better playing the deeper ball playing CM role as he gets more used to it.

The idea that he lacks physicality seems to be purely based on him being short. Any time I've watched him he's been very combative - challenges for eveything, jumps well for aerial duels, and not afraid to throw himself around generally. He's more than able for the Championship I would say.

Interviewed on Off the Ball today Seems unsure of where he'll be next season. On one hand he seems to be holding out hope that he can get games with Bournemouth, on the other hand reluctantly acknowledging he might need a loan. Says Scott Parker ended up convincing him to NOT go on loan in January, which is ridiculously bad form from Parker as he didn't play him at all until the final game of the season and that was a dead rubber. Crawford or Stephen Kenny need to make it crystal clear to him that he needs to go on loan, and to get it done early in the transfer window. They need to dispel any notions of hanging around Bournemouth to try to "play his way into the team", because it's clear as day he won't get the games. Surely he realises he's on the cusp of the Ireland senior team? He just needs to be playing regularly and he's in.

Bit like Kelleher you can see why the lad would be tempted to hang on if his manager tells him he's on the verge. I do agree for everyone's sake he would be best off going on loan for a year and playing a full season to develop further and learn the craft of ball playing midfielder. Has a lot of potential in that role and I suspect would play regularly for a good chunk of Championship teams next season.
Could do with himself and Coventry being blooded too. If Cullen got injured in the morning we would be hopelessly light.

tbf to him he did seem pretty clear that for this upcoming season he needs to /wants to play every week and he is open to a loan + understands things with bournemouth will likely get even harder if they add more players. mentioned during the interview his contract goes until 2025 so he has time. hopefully he gets a good loan to a good championship side for the season

Kilkenny is being linked with a loan to Middlesbrough. Great news if true, getting it sorted early. Hull also interested.

He is not going to see much time in the EPL under current manager so a move to a championship side where he will play regular is his best bet this season

Bournemouth are supposedly looking at signing Marcus Tavernier, and Kilkenny on loan probably being used as makeweight along with Stacey to sweeten the deal for Boro. Wilder name checked Kilkenny when talking about the strength in depth that Bournemouth have and some of the good players they have which couldn't make squads before they played each other. Issue for Kilkenny being Johnny Howson is captain and plays as the 6 for Boro. Was offered a new contract so wouldn't be going there to be first choice if Howson signs for another season. |
