Slow enough start for him at Charlton. Subbed off in three of his first four appearances, was an unused sub in the previous game and was the first man taken off yesterday, early in the second half. He's 23 now, while it's early days for him at Charlton you'd be hoping he'd be standing out at a mid table League 1 team by this point. But the view there so far seems to be that he doesn't seem to be any better than what they already have at the club.

Didn't know the current Charlton manager was Michael O'Neill's assistant at Stoke.

Played the full 90'. 2-1 win over Exeter. Charlton fans seem very pleased with his performance.

Kilkenny's move to Charlton went under my radar, only found out about it today with all the transfers of Irish players going on it was hard to keep up. I know it is a step down in League One but he needs a period of playing regularly which he hasn't done much of in his career other than the spells in August, October and November for Bournemouth last season. The Stoke move didn't work out because he was out injured for 3 months for the first half of the season. Hopefully he can get playing at Charlton and play well. What type of football do Charlton play these days?

First team football is the main priority for him at this point. Josh Cullen played for Charlton in League 1 at the same age so there is a pathway for him from here.

15th in League One. Would have been nice to see him join a team pushing for promotion but at least he'll be out of Stoke and playing regularly.

He's 23 in less than a month and has only played 28 times at senior club level.
That's simply too many years of bench warming to develop as a player.

Definitely a better club to be at but I can't see him getting many minutes at Blackburn either, they have plenty in midfield. Hopefully he does.

I see a few reporters close to the club are saying there's nothing behind the link to Blackburn and certainly not in advanced talks as reported by other accounts. Probably have signed by the morning though..

Interesting move. They're currently third in the league, 14pts behind Burnley and 9pts behind Sheffield United. Tomasson has done a fantastic job since taking over in the summer.

Looks like Kilkenny is switching to Blackburn as EPL teams continue to get their loan players away from Alex Neil and Stoke as quick as they can.

some people think hes not an international level player because hes playing with a team who are 2nd bottom in SPL. yes he did well in his few appearances like daryl horgan did for a stretch. at the end of the day the bottom 3 or 4 in scotland are no stronger than shamrock rovers or derry. hes playing with one of the leagues poorest teams for a reason. hodge while he plays a different role to mcgrath , is featuring in PL games against some of the best players on the planet. mcgrath did a great job when called upon but i really see no great value in him going forward unless we are stretched with injuries.

Nah, my post has nothing to do with writing him off. It was to do with, like you say, fickle posters, suggesting the lad should have been parachuted in for his first ever Ireland appearance in competitive fixture against Portugal. Bonkers stuff.

Probably because he was the best preforming midfielder at the time after Cullen. I don't think he should have started, but having him in the squad at least would hardly have been outlandish . Posters are insanely fickle on here at times, a guy doesn't play for a few games (and Kilkenny has only been back from injury for a few games), and suddenly they're fit to be written off. Useless players who's prior good form can just be trashed as some sort of aberation.

We're decent enough..
