Nice one! If he does well it could be enough to get him in the squad.

Great to hear. Well done Conor
Flying so high, trying to remember
How many cigarettes did I bring along?
When I get down I'll jump in a taxi cab
Driving through London town, to cry you a song

Just saw there that Connor Ronan got on near the end for Wolves today for his Premier League debut. 199th Irish Premier League player I think, well done to him, he has waited a long time for his moment.

Said player got 17.5k for his nation simply qualifying for u21 euros  tournament and playing in last round of games.

Good idea not to share the name. Nobody would figure it out.

No minutes again for the lad by the look of things! 10 minutes to go.

He's pushing 25 now, needs to find a new home methinks. Smallbone and Azaz likely to overtake him in the pecking order if he doesn't get minutes soon.

Ronan is on the Wolves bench against West Ham. There isn't much on the bench with him in terms of experience so there is a case for Wolves keeping him around. The three midfielders I see are lads called Traore (not Adama), Mosquera and Campbell and none of them have PL experience so maybe they are hedging their bets by keeping Ronan with that cohort to see who works out (if any) if/when needed. Couple of injuries in there too.

We’re pretending £40k a year is f**k all now? If you live alone in Dublin or London maybe..

Feel free to argue about his merits, wages etc but stop with the petty sniping please. Next person at it will be suspended.

I only saw this after I had finished my comment.

That's fair enough

The highest level he's played at is one of the worst teams in the Scottish Premiership and a Swiss second division team with a couple of abortive loan spells in League One mixed in. He's also never played in the PL and that's unlikely to change this year.

The wages thing isn't shocking, the absurdity of giving him such a long-term contract is. But that happened ages ago.

Making things up again, are we?

Went to Portsmouth on loan in January 2018 and stayed until the end of the season.
Went to Walsall on a half season loan and stayed until it's conclusion.
Went to Blackpool in January 2020 and stayed until the season was curtailed by Covid.
Which one of those loan spells was "abortive" then?

I notice you also neglected to mention the spell with one of the top Slovak sides competing to get into the Uefa Cup.

It's really peculiar how Ronan getting in and around the Wolves first team this year has drawn your ire to such an extent, usually fans of the Ireland national team would be happy to see Irish players make progress - but then you don't acknowledge people like Ronan as Irish, do you?

Definition of the word abortive: "failing to produce the intended result".

In his first two English loan spells, he was a bit part player. In his third English loan spell, he made ten, largely underwhelming, appearances and no attempt was made to extend the loan or sign him permanently.

So, yes, all three loan spells were abortive.

I didn't mention his loan spell at Dunajska Streda because neither you or I had heard of them before he went there and because the Slovakian league is barely better than the League of Ireland, ranked several rungs below the Swedish league where Zack Elbouzedi, similarly out of his depth at League One level, plays.

I hope Ronan makes it at Wolves because there is a severe lack of Irish outfield players playing in the PL. However I'm also a realist and acknowledge that neither him or Coventry are within an arse's roar of being good enough to play in the PL, and going by the lack of faith shown by several managers, they're inclined to agree.

Ronan was born in England and played for England. I'm well aware of why he's playing for Ireland but that has nothing to do with anything.

I don't think Connolly has a future at the top level, I've outlined doubts about Parrott on his thread, when Dara O'Shea was in the PL I voiced how I thought his form was overhyped, and I think Idah is miles off being a regular Intl starter.

Not that I need to justify anything to a little keyboard warrior like you!
