Agüero and KDB to come off the bench if City need a goal. Em, best of luck Watford!

Have some sympathy for the Watford fans. Imagine looking forward so much to the final for weeks and then your team deliver such a pitiful and feeble performance. The players should reimburse the fans with the cost of the tickets.

That's a bit harsh on the players. They did try, but we're just blown away by City. They were decent until the first goal and came out trying second half. De Bruyne transformed City once he came on. There's not a Watford player who would get near the City squad. I do feel for the Watford fans, but at least they enjoyed a great cup run and a trip to Wembley. What about fans of other mid table teams putting out reserve sides in the 3rd round? That's really pitiful.

The FA Cup is like the dying days of Top of the Pops. Everyone says its an institution and still ao special but really its finished. Its a pity

An excellent analogy. Today was a cringe-fest from start to finish.

Probably longer. There is definitely a correlation between how much they try and sell it to you and how sh*te it is.

Yeah. Ever since they moved to the Millennium while they redeveloped Wembley, it's been sh*te. The only one worth a sh*te was the one where Gerrard scored in the 89th minute and that was over a decade ago ('08 iirc). Other than that, there hasn't been a final where it actually meant anything since Bobby Di Matteo scored after 43 seconds and when they abolished the Cup Winners Cup.

It will never be the same again and will never hold the same value it did pre 2000. The opening up of the champions league killed it.
But they can make it better somewhat: 1- only the final at Wembley. Bring back 1/2 finals at Villa park and Old Trafford etc 2- have the team in the lower league at home always (they do this in Germany) 3 - move the 5th round and 1/4 finals to midweek so they an exclusive spot on their own. |

I can remember all the finals from mid 70s-late 90s. But couldn’t tell you any of the winners from then onwards bar 1 or 2.

really should give winners a champions league place instead of finishing fourth. Then you will see all the big clubs show it the respect they always used to

Same here. I could barely remember who even played in most of the finals of this decade yet I can remember most of the finals before that. These days if you ask me about the FA Cup, you would just get a shrug of the shoulders and 'meh'. In fact, I'm on holiday in Turkey atm and didn't even bother trying to find somewhere to watch y'day's game whereas I would have done 10 years ago. And that's the competition that actually has a Few USPs (3rd round shocks in January, David v Golliath at a ramshackle ground etc) for broadcasters to try and use. Surely, it's time to put the league cup out of its misery. Quite a few other countries in Europe don't even bother with it, they just have the 1 domestic cup competition.

Whatever slim hope Watford had of an upset went out the window with the selection of Gomes. Decent back in his day, but now very much past it and on Saturday rusty as hell to boot. The poor lad couldn't catch a cold and it was like Watford were trying to win the FA Cup final with a sheet of paper in nets. A classic case of sentimentality trumping the simple logic of selecting your best players. Fair enough they probably would have lost anyway, but give yourself a chance at least.
