Best thing to happen to Irish football in a while. Don’t be giving the FAI any ideas ffs.
It's a disaster. Irish lads are missing out on 2/3 years of quality coaching and playing against some of the best young players in Europe on a regular basis. They'll arrive in the UK under-developed relative to their peers.

No its not. A lot of these lads are playing first team football which imo can be of greater benefit. Plenty of good coaches in Ireland. They are are still going at 18 not as if they are past it that stage.

I'm not trying to say that the LOI will never produce a good player again, obviously there's been plenty of lads who have gone over at 18/19/20 and done well. I just feel like for the lads such as Evan Ferguson, who are really special, being held back in the LOI is an impediment. Plenty of good coaches in Ireland, but the standard is not comparable to the UK.

Hard to know the strength of any nations at this age level, but you would think on paper that's a good draw

Very good. England, Italy, and Germany were three teams also in Pot 2 we could have drawn and Hungary are only in Pot 1 because of being hosts so we've possibly gotten the weakest pot 1 team.

It cant be beyond the wit of man to organise a grant scheme for suitable candidates to do their badges to an appropriate level. It also cant be that expensive in the overall scheme of things. It just needs somebody analysing the big picture and working out where and at what age level these coaches are required and to work from there.

Also, there needs to be a clear decision made re Academies, are the FAI going to support Academies at all/some clubs or are they going to set up their own Regional Academies across the country. They also need to work out how to maximise their/the clubs return from lads moving on to professional clubs abroad when they are 18. Either the young lads are contracted to clubs or contracted in some way to the FAI. Proceeds or a portion of such proceeds should be ring fenced for re-investment in to the coaching/Academy structures.

if a player is really special they will end up with a decent European team anyway. Probably a better environment for them to learn then England. Players are mentally stronger & mature going over at 18 odd...makes a big difference.

Should also be mentioned that the top two teams in each group move onto the quarter finals and the top five teams in the knockouts qualify for the U17s WC in Peru in November.

Yeah for once, it looks like we have got a very favourable draw here. Straightforward process also to qualify out of the group. Top 2 progress.

We just need to finish Top 5 in the competition to qualify for the U17 WC. The 4 semi finalists plus the winner of a play off between the 2 beaten QFists with the best group record will go to the WC. Huge incentive and Top 2 in the group looks very doable.

Not just the qualifications needed. I'm robbing these views from others who have already made the statements but they make absolute sense to me.

We need to get the coaches more access to the players. The best 15-18 year olds who are still in school are training with the LOI first teams to get the necessary training but for them to do that during the day they need to have a special agreement with their school, etc.

We need a full system in place and also one that doesn't only cater for only the very elite youngsters in the system since there can also be late developers who might get swallowed up if they are fast tracked to the adults team just to get the access to the training.

For example, from U13s and up the players at LOI academies would do the football during the day and then do their schooling after training at the academy. Thats going to take a lot of financing to put something like that in place.

Yeah he's been injured since the last qualifiers and more than likely came in carrying an injury since he only played the first half of the second game.

Melia made his league debut there for Pats tonight, came on with 20 minutes to go at 0-0 (finished 3-0). Strong show of faith to throw a 15 year old on with the game all to play for and Pats needing a win/bounce following Clancy's sacking.
