I really have no faith in any of our youth coaches. Tactically naive compared to the opposition and seem to have favourites that put in poor performances time after time and still get picked.

Top seeds means very little in the elite phase.

Most teams that have qualified won 3/3 or 2/3 in the qualifying stage.

Bulgaria finished on 9 points vs our 7 in qualifying.

I do think we need to work hard on coaches. I really think Crawford is especially not qualified and we should be investing in this area.

Couple of comments here on poor coaching. Lads on here do seem to have an issue with Crawford but he's with the 21's. The U17's and U19's have fared poorly over the last week, is there really a problem with the coaches in these squads?
There was also a comment about lads being picked constantly who are not good enough, ahead of lads who are. That always a bit of a cliche and a throw away comment. Who's in the squad who shouldnt be and who's been left out when they should be playing....

A 2-2 draw, so they're confirmed as eliminated.

Finland lost 9-1 to Portugal. How did we manage to lose to Finland?!

While this group are not as strong as they are hyped up to be in some quarters (Kenny's Kids etc) with a bit more luck, or just by tightening things up a small bit at the back, they could have qualified for the finals.

It is clear we need better coaches and it is an area would should have been targeting anyway. We saw the diff Kenny made in a short space of time. A good coach at this level is huge for progress.

Kinda going under the radar as they are not qualifiers, but the U17's play Holland twice this week, on Wednesday and Friday.
I haven't seen any squad announced but hopefully we hear something before KO on Wednesday.

I assume Trent Kone-Doherty will be involved.

A good start to his Liverpool career so far.

For sure - could be the star man in the squad.
Already has three U17 caps, but he's almost a year older now so will hopefully be a key man in the upcoming October qualifiers.

Lotsa new names for us to learn about.
Most are with LoI teams, which adds up after Brexit and is no bad thing.

Two matches versus the Dutch should show us where we stand in the pecking order.

Wonder if there'll be streams Stern Smile

Great result for the U17s. To go to the Netherlands and win (albeit on penalties) at any age level is difficult and for this group drawn primarily from Irish clubs to do so bodes really well for the future. Fantastic free kick at the death from St Pats Luke Kehir to square the game 1-1 and we then went on to win 8-7 on penos.
