Really disappointing stuff as I think we've been the better team but some shocking defensive mistakes have let us down. One positive to take away is that Zefi looks several levels above anyone else on the pitch, if he keeps up his development we'll have a special player on our hands

Yeah Zefi looks class. Vata also had promising moments. Will be shocked if any of the others make anywhere near to senior level particularly the defense.

Far too early to say that. Ogbene never even played underage for Ireland and look at him now. To judge players off two games is way too reactionary imo.

Probably true. I'm just annoyed because the defending was just so lazy.  Just seems like they expected to win. 😒

He didn't, but often said Nigeria was his preference at international until Kenny was in charge and declared for us.

It's an unusual Irish team in the way that we actually look decent going forward but the defending seemed all over the place. A few tricky and pacey players in the front 4. Haven't watched many of these lads play and I'd assume most people are the same unless you attend LOI underage games. A lot of the Kennys kids style pages seem to hype the sh*te out of this age group but aside from Zefi who are the ones tipped to go far?

Yeah he said Nigeria was his preference but never ruled out Ireland. Someone like Jon Walters or even Luke McNally now would have been a better example

No more than the Under 19s I really don't get the hype with this group. There isn't much there apart from Zefi and, at a push, Vata and Ferizaj. These teams don't have the strength or the depth of the age groups that went before them from 1999 to 2002. More a case of trying to find a player or two at most from each age group with these lads - Adaramola from the 2003s, Ferguson from the 2004s and Zefi from this 2005s. The rest already have ground to make up I think.

I think we will get a few of players from this age group but we have to stop looking at it as in u17's and more along the lines of birth years.
I am more concerned about the coaches underage than the players.
I never like the look of how Crawford's teams look for example.
Investment in this area is very important going forward.
We should have had the likes of Carsley, Reid,  and Barry Murphy involved and have apln to get a conveyor belt of top coaches coming through aswell.

Very disapppinted with the performance of the U17's. I thought we were better than that. Zefi is the one stand out player and hopefully will go on to make it, but I'd like to think we have good enough youth structures to be able to take on and beat Finland and we didnt.

I thought we looked better in open play and absolutely dreadful in terms of decision making in both boxes. I’m not sure to what extent that’s down to coaching and to what extent it’s down to the players but it made for a very frustrating watch.

Finland was a bit of a smash & grab to be honest.
We were all over them but didn't get that vital 3rd goal and then crumbled at the end.

Portugal were a class above us for sure, as we'd expect at any level.

In that odd thing where one team wins every match, we can still come 2nd with a decent win if Portugal get similar v Finland.
Long-shot, and I'd not be backing us to win, but curious to see how these young lads come out after two losses that will have set their confidence levels back a bit.

Said it previously on this thread. There’s lads in that squad and the previous one who shouldn’t be anywhere near it. Absolute crazy.
