Imagine the scenario, it’s 2019, We just scraped past Gibraltar 1-0 on the side of a runway and we have fans calling for Glen Whelan to be put back into the team

Similar story to many times in the past. Took the lead, but instead of building on it our play deteriorated.
Thought Doherty and Coleman represented out best chance of creating something from open play and was surprised at the substitution. Brady's a left-winger, play him there. Arter coming on for Maguire was too negative a move. McGoldrick definitely has potential, just need to find someone he can work with upfront. Never expected much from the game but did think we would have scored from set-pieces. We are still struggling in midfield. Shaun Williams played well against Poland and deserves another chance. We were always better at home than away under McCarthy. So I'd expect a much better performance against Georgia. If we win and Switzerland beat Denmark, it'll be a good week's work. And we can forget all about that poxy wind tunnel for a stadium.

To be fair to him, he said the wind was bad but it was the same for both teams, and that we played poorly. He didn’t look to make excuses.

I don't care about the excuses, stop kicking the ball into it! The lower the ball is to the ground, the less of an effect the wind will have.

Agree completely, but - somewhat inaccurately - it was suggested he blamed the wind. He didn’t - he just isn’t very good.

Difference was, the Rock players had more sense than to try some of the passes he did!

Needs to be changes after that, not good enough by any measure. Doherty clearly not capable on the right in a 442. Sean Maguire was very poor, James Collins deserves a run. Arter done well when he came in, would start him. Though Hendrick was also very poor despite the goal as was McClean. Unfortunately I can't see all these players being dropped. Would like to see Alan Judge come in and start for one of the above. Seriously lacking wing players, can Jack Byrne do a job somewhere? I find it unbelievable that Daryl Horgan didn't make the final squad. Even McGeady has been playing well for Sunderland. Surely can't stick with McClean and Doherty after today?

Aye. And leaving Batistuta on the bench was madness unless he was carrying an injury. |

Proves again the best thing a player can do to imrove his reputation with many fans is not to play. The lads who don’t play for us are world beaters and great form
For their clubs and the lads who play are sh*t. No matter how many times we change the team or syste This is the one consistent.

What's shocking is that when one of our players gets the ball, he generally only has one other player showing for the ball. At times, Gibraltar had 3 or 4 players showing for the ball and managed to put a few passes together before making an error, which is to be expected given the level they play at. Our players don't seem to ever be in positions to receive it.
I know I was critical of Duffy's ability and footballing intelligence, and rightly so, but at one stage in the first half, Randolph plays a short kickout to him, and he goes long. As it was travelling, I had a look at our midfielders, and they were about 40 yards away from him and neither dropped deep to get a pass from him. That horrendous from players playing in the top 2 leagues in England. It's basic enough stuff for a footballer to do, and I doubt many other nations would have played the same way yesterday.

One thing we can't deny is that Gibraltar were knocking the ball around with relative ease. There was fluidity with their players in midfield, all showing for the ball... Gibraltar! If they can do it, then there's no excuse.
I still give Mick a pass with the early days and.bad pitch/weather conditions, but if that happened in 3-4 games time... there would be serious questions.
