Hardly, Ronan is a classy player and has shown as much under Kenny, Italy was his first poor game. Mandroiu is very talented too but doesn't seem to have got going today.

Really? From what I've seen of those two neither has a hope of being genuinely senior international standard.

Less than ideal, but huge wind and astroturf pitch in the freezing cold, always going to suit Iceland. Saying that Mandroiu and Elbouzedi arent up to the other lads standard imo. I like a nod to LOI as much as the next man but they are fairly basic players compared to the other lads.

Exactly. Himself and Elbouzedi are both useful. I'm by no means a huge LOI proponent but there's plenty of young talent there at the moment, and they're certainly part of that.
We're decent enough..

I think it's a waste of a jersey having the likes of Elbouzedi in there. The guy is clearly never going to be a senior international for Ireland. There must be 100 Irish players under the age of 21 who are no worse than he was tonight, anyone can pick up the ball out wide and repeatedly chip it straight into the opposition keeper's hands.

Need to look at getting Scully and Barrett in for November to give us something different out wide in attack. Play Parrott up front in his best position and leave Idah on the bench or with the Under 19s until he improves.

There's a reason why we never qualify for Under 21 finals. The few players we produce who are international standard are already with the seniors by that age and what's left behind them isn't up to much. Same will probably happen with this bunch, Kenny will be with the seniors before the under 21 campaign finishes, he will take the best five or six players with him and the whole thing will fizzle out.

Is the above post accurate?  Are we confirmed or even likely to be fourth seeds in world cup qualifying?

I had thought we had moved up the rankings to be comfortably third seeds and, dependant on results, possibly second seeds.

I don't see how it can be accurate. We are 17th in Europe according to Fifas rankings which would lead me to believe we are 3rd seeds currently.  However, UEFA have not published their qualification criteria yet.

For season ticket holders, do you get a ticket to be printed for the U21 game?
And does anyone have a spare they are not using?

First home game of this campaign I'm gonna miss due to holliers but I'll be streaming it from afar, I hopes!
Excited to see the squad which is due any day now.
We need to be getting back on track after Iceland (where we deserved a draw I felt) and beating Sweden is the way to do it to put them back in their box as this is a 6-pointer.
Not gonna be easy though with two of our best players now with the Seniors so the replacements need to step up...this is a great opportunity for Ronan, Idah, Obafemi etc. to put in a big performance going forward.
And surely Scully HAS to be called up!?

Republic of Ireland U-21 Squad

Goalkeepers: Caoimhin Kelleher (Liverpool), Conor Kearns (UCD AFC).

Defenders: Thomas O'Connor (Gillingham, on loan from Southampton), Danny McNamara (Newport County, on loan from Millwall), Dara O'Shea (West Bromwich Albion), Conor Masterson (QPR), Liam Scales (UCD AFC), Nathan Collins (Stoke City), Trevor Clarke (Rotherham).

Midfielders: Jason Knight (Derby County), Conor Coventry (West Ham United), Jack Taylor (Barnet), Jack Clarke (Aston Villa), Connor Ronan (DAC Dunajská Streda, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers), Dan Mandroiu (Bohemians).

Wingers: Zack Elbouzedi (Waterford), Gavin Kilkenny (AFC Bournemouth), Neil Farrugia (Shamrock Rovers), Danny Grant (Bohemians).

Forwards: Adam Idah (Norwich City), Aidan Keena (Hearts), Michael Obafemi (Southampton).

A bit disappointing that Keena has been picked ahead of Scully. Otherwise a strong looking squad.
