The Italy game will be a serious test.

A lot of our lads are very young for u21 level, still. The Italians have a number of players who have a few years first team experience in Serie A. We may have talent, but they still need to start playing first team games to really push on.

right so im taking for granted the italians will be decent, wonder how good are the icelandic side. 3 of us fighting for those two spots probably. you would have to fancy us for a top two finish.

Iceland beat Armenia 6-1 on Monday.
Three days earlier we beat Armenia 1-0.

Admittedly from reading the reports we could and should have scored alot more.
And the travel from Armenia to Iceland via a game in Dublin cant have helped Armenia. Iceland on the otherhand were going in fresh.

But Iceland are still likely to be a big challenge for us.

Will be a big scrap for second between ourselves, Iceland and Sweden. And its advantage Ireland.

Unless Mick was to listen to the calls on here to have Connolly et al brought up to the seniors for the remaining games to warm the bench.

From wikipedia so may not be the most accurate:

Iceland v Republic of Ireland
Report

No time confirmed yet.

If we do qualify for the finals who would be the management team at the finals??? Kenny will be with the seniors by then and in the middle of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers

I would hope/expect that Tom Mohan would get the job for the last qualifier, the playoffs (if we need them) and the finals (if we get there). He will know most of the players and would seem like a natural successor to Kenny.

The only problem then is that those games will likely clash with 2022 World Cup qualifiers and Kenny will probably want to call up some of the players to the senior team.

Can players play in both senior and under 21 games if needs be ?

Keith Andrews and Jim Crawford you'd imagine seeing as they're currently working with Kenny. Tom Mahon might get moved up next summer if Kenny takes his coaches with him, can't see the FAI bringing in another coach from outside the FAI to replace Kenny as U21s manager.

The Championships take place between 13th and 27th June 2021 so there would be nothing to stop Kenny stepping back in to the role for it as it is unlikely to interfere with the senior team.
