Exactly. This is a bizaare thread.

All the more considering its not like there arent more interesting topics to discuss; in the past 8 days we’ve drawn with Switzerland, Georgia yet again opened a door for us to qualify, our U21s played amazing and won away to the second seeds, and there are 5 new capped players at senior level.

And people are discussing Stephen Kenny’s speech. Confused

95 percent of people in football are excruciatingly boring, using the same platitudes about how they know the next game is tough but if they work hard, they stand every chance of getting a result.

4 percent are knobs, like Zlatan going around calling himself a lion for scoring a couple of goals in the MLS or everything that comes out of Joey Barton's mouth.

Kenny is one of those guys who is genuinely passionate about taking an analytical approach to intelligent topics in football. I don't know what he's like personally and people have said he's a bit weird, so what if he is? Nobody's asking the team to go out for pints with him and be his mate. They just need to listen to his ideas and take them on board. He's a genuine student of football, rather than just spouting the age-old stuff about grit and determination.
No thank you Turkish......I'm sweet enough

Spot on! I still love Zlatan though! The game is short of lunatics.

You should probably read back to the original article. The FAI is apparently concerned about his communication skills, everybody on this thread is agreeing that it’s a weird thing to bash him for.
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

The FAI bashing anyone for their communication skills shows that they have at least kept their sense of humour.

Re his "communication skills", I had the opportunity of hearing SK speak at length a while back.

It's clear he's no orator (understatement), but if you listen carefully to what he says (and can get past the accent), he speaks a lot of sense.

In particular, he knows exactly what he wants, and how he intends to get it.

Impressive.

Indeed, some of the best managers ever were poor orators. Kenny Dalglish was a useless speaker, Ferguson wasn't much better.

You don't need to be eloquent and highly articulate to manage a football team.

Stephen Kenny is really down to earth and likable and I think that is an underrated quality to have as Ireland manager. If he was a big character its likely that he would divide opinion a bit more. From what I have seen people really want Kenny to do well. If the results go bad for anyone, the tide turns on them and it always ends badly in that case.

I think the FAI need to worry about their awful media image and not the charisma of a man with an impeccable reputation and a big passion for Irish football.
