Have you not watched Ireland's last 4 games?! Ogbene was excellent in every match and arguably should have been given MOTM against lowly Portugal. 2 goals in 5 caps and he's a constant threat to defenders with his pace and hold up play. He also has a goal and 2 assists recently for Rotherham who are top of League 1. For me, he is one of the 1st names on the team sheet, a great find from Kenny.

this place is bananas at times.
At the weekend lads were sending him to league 1 because he only got 5 minutes in the FA and equating player development to guitar playing. He is part of a club playing in one of the top 2 or 3 divisions in the world. He is starting to feature more and more and his performance last night showed he is improving

Il play devil's advocate he's getting very high level experience when he does play and correct that can't be bad. I liked the fact Smith referenced he needs to be a bit more ruthless when he has the opportunity to shoot. That to me is a confidence thing I felt for him after his outstanding shot tipped onto the post you could see by his face he felt "am I ever going to score". That shot was a piece of pure quality. Another reason however I feel a loan to League 1 would have really benefitted him this year he would have learned to be more ruthless playing every week he'd get a bit confidence in front of goal wouldn't hesitate and also he would learn to use his frame. He's a big lad but doesn't use that enough. In League 1 he'd quickly learn he needs to use that frame every week to bully defenders to help himself like he did against Portugal or last night. He gave good defenders a tough time last night.

6 goals in 50 games, 3 of which came in one game is simply not good enough if we are being brutally honest. Connolly has 5 in 46 I believe and Parrott something similar. Unless there's some sort of miracle these lads will end up as lower league or LOI players in the not too distant future. No bad thing, but there's a reason strikers go for the most money and we may look at Ferguson to be our great new hope I feel.

You cannot look at the stats that black and white. He only started 8 of those 50 games! Of those 8 only he only completed 90 minutes 4 times. 17 of those 50 were injury time appearances where hes played between 1-5 minutes. His average game time since his debut is 20 minutes a game in all competitions and that has dramatically increased in recent weeks since Dean Smith has come in and given his a few starts and 20-30 minutes off the bench instead of 5 minutes or less. The lad has never got going because hes never been given a chance playing a run of games. Now that he has half a chance under a new manager hes in a team that are being dominated for 90 minutes rarely having a chance on goal because they dont have the ball and arent creating chances. They've lost their last 5 games hes featured in by 2-0, 3-0 and 5-0 scorelines where an experienced international like Pukki cant even manage a shot on target nevermind score 1 goal. What chance does Idah have? Its imperative to his development that he needs to play games week in and out at his age or else he is going to end up in the lower divisions or back in the LOI but its far too early to talk about that at just 20 years of age. Shane Long for example at the same age and same point in his career had just 8 goals having played twice as much minutes. Hes been a Premier League player for 15 years now. Lets give him a chance before calling him a dud. |

He's part of a club getting battered in one of the top leagues in the world. Norwich, with 8 goals in 20 games, are well on track to be the lowest scoring team in PL history. What an amazing stat for a young striker to have on his CV. This of course after also being part of the 19/20 team, who are also one of the worst in PL history. Somehow you think this is great for his development/confidence.
Exactly. And to add to the breakdown of his actual minutes for Norwich, 4 of his 8 starts have come vs Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs & a very good West Ham. Not exactly giving the lad a fair chance. Total minutes: 21/22 - 462' so far (amounts to about 5 games) 0 goals, 0 assists. 20/21 - 325' (about 3.5 games) 3 goals, 1 assist. 19/20 - 444' (about 5 games) 3 goals, 0 assists. So his total senior minutes for Norwich amount to about 13.5 games, spread over 2 years. I don't know how anyone can look at that and say staying staying at Norwich is the best thing for him. Since making his debut for Ireland in September 2020 (vs Bulgaria) [i.e. all of Stephen Kenny's tenure] he has played the most minutes (and has the most starts) of any striker or attacking midfielder, but hasn't contributed any goals: Idah - 825 minutes over 13 caps (10 starts), 0 goals, 0 assists, barely a shot on target. Robinson - 739 minutes over 12 caps (7 starts), 6 goals, 1 assist. Horgan - 507 minutes over 11 caps (6 starts), 1 goal, 3 assists. Knight - 479 minutes over 9 caps (4 starts), 1 goal, 3 assists. Connolly - 441 minutes over 6 caps (6 starts), 0 goals, 0 assists. Browne - 394 minutes over 8 caps (3 starts), 1 goal, 0 assists. McGrath - 357 minutes over 6 caps (4 starts), 0 goals, 2 assists. J.Collins - 292 minutes over 10 caps (3 starts), 1 goal, 0 assists. Parrott - 290 minutes over 10 caps (4 starts), 2 goals, 0 assists. Ogbene - 273 minutes over 5 caps (3 starts), 2 goals, 0 assists. S.Long - 192 minutes over 6 caps (2 starts), 0 goals, 1 assist. Curtis - 185 minutes over 4 caps (2 starts), 0 goals, 1 assist. You'll notice Idah & Connolly, both getting sporadic minutes (albeit Connolly more & at a better club) hasn't translated to goals & wins for Ireland. While younger lads Parrott & Knight, out playing regularly at a lower level, contributed goals to help us win games. The penny dropped for Connolly (a year older than Idah) & he's got a potentially great loan under Wilder. Fingers crossed he stays fit & comes back to us in March/June match fit & scoring goals. You can add Obafemi in there, I think he has 7 goals, 4 assists in 49 apps at club level. Sporadic minutes off the bench in the Premier League didn't help him progress much & now he's dropped down to Swansea permanently. When will the penny drop for Idah? If he's to realise his potential (IMO he could be a solid PL striker) he needs consistent starts, playing attacking football (i.e. he needs to get away from Norwich).

Players can always push for a move. The club can agree or turn them down. (Bazunu got loans these past 2 years because he wanted to be out playing first team football, not U23s.) At the very least, Stephen Kenny will surely have been on to him to get a loan It's probably moot now anyway. It looks like Norwich aren't recalling Hugill, and they certainly aren't signing a new striker after all the money they spent last summer. They'll be making do with the squad they have. The best we can hope for now is Idah just gets regular starts, and that Norwich's 0.95 xG eventually leads to him getting his 1st PL goal.

Slightly heavy touch following a good run. Beats Pickford to it and finishes well. Cue jubilant celebrations with the home fans. I think that's his first goal at Carrow Road in all competitions too. Good man Adam.
