It's imperative that these players are kept away from Noel King

f**k the under 21s in their current state.

get them around the extended full squad. well the better lads anyway.

we could also keep noel king away from them and find a better u21 coach. not that i would trust mr delaney to find his replacement

lets be honest, young doherty and o'brien are in their mid 20s. we could really do with some genuine young talent to get us excited about the future.

super result. well done the u19s

There's 7 groups with four teams in each group. Each team will play each other once and whoever finishes top of their group join Armenia as the 8 teams at the finals.

Their groups aren't on until November. Wales and Scotland are in the same group. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification
Don't think we can host the elite stage after hosting the first round of qualifying, and the U17 tournament is here in May.

We can host the elite stage.  After the draw it is discussed as to who wishes to host the elite stage.  If no agreement then there is a drawing of lots. Some countries always seem to try and host eg Portugal, Cyprus and Serbia.

You do get some money from UEFA as hosts but must pay hotel costs for the other teams.

We seem to host these mini qualifying tournaments fairly often so hopefully we do this time around too.

I see that Finn Harps new ground is down to host games in the under17s Championship, has construction even started on that?

7 teams make the top tier. Germany and Portugal automatically make it in, leaving 5 spots up for grabs.

There are 13 qualifying groups so 9 points is almost certainly a must. Italy are ahead of us on GD. Meaning we can afford only 3 more teams doing better than us.

A draw between Switzerland and Spain this evening would be ideal.

The Austria/Hungary group has one round of games left and neither can finish ahead of us.

Lot of groups dont play until November.

France being in a group with Belgium is good news.

The remaining 8 groups are under way this week and due to conclude over the next few days.

We are currently sitting third last in Pot one teams for elite draw.
We can afford only two more teams jumping ahead of us.

Already group 9 and group 11 cannot trouble us as there are no teams who can get nine points in those groups after one and two rounds of games played respectively.

Of the remaining six groups, a draw between Croatia and Macedonia was a good result for us. If Croatia get any kind of result against Czech Republic then thats another group who cant trouble us. Not a certainty though.

France and Belgium have yet to play each other in their group. A draw would be perfect for us.

In Group 13 Greece have 3 points after one game while Bulgaria and Romania drew. If either of the latter two take a point off Greece then that group cant trouble us. So we've two bites at that particular cherry; a more realistic hope than the French group.

Sweden only beat San Marino by a goal and are in a group with Scotland and Wales so even if one of them reaches 9 points there is a chance our GD will still be better.

England are top of their group after one game. Probably will pass us out but we'll see.

Georgia and Isreal each have 3 points after one round of games in Group 1.

Its going to be very tight but we still have a chance.

Half time between England and Iceland, 1-1.

Would be a huge result for Ireland if it stayed that way.

Both of those teams on 3 points before this game kicked off.

england won 3-1. To be expected really. They'll likely finish ahead of us.

Leaves room for one other group to pass us out.

Some key games today including Greece v Romania. Need a result for Romania.

Israel won today. We need a draw between them and Georgia the next day, or a narrow Isreal win.

Czech Republic v Macedonia is a big one too. Macedonia drew with Croatia and if they can get another result today then that group is out of the picture.

Sweden v Wales also a big one. A result for Wales or even a narrow win for Sweden are good results for us.

Still a decent chance but I think a lot will depend on France and Belgium drawing.

These are the most important games for Irish football this week.

bit of a mixed bag of results today so far.

Belgium drawing with Malta is good for us but also bad as really how can they get a result against France if they cant beat Malta.

Other good results: Sweden lost to Wales, Georgia lost to Azerbaijan.

Not good results: England beat Iceland, Greece beat Romania.

Czechs currently beating Macedonia but they still have to play Croatia.

We need 4 of the following 6 things to happen:

Croatia to get a result against Czech Republic.
Bulgaria to get a result against Greece.
Israel to lose or draw, or win by only one goal against Georgia.
Sweden to get a result against Scotland.
Belgium to draw or win against France.
England to not win their last game, against Turkey (in Turkey).

We are still in the mix. Will go to the wire.
We will either be last in Pot one or 1st or 2nd in Pot 2.

Fine margins. Still a lot of football to be played next week.

Another qualification mini league. Four teams, round robin and only the team in first qualifies
