Tom Mohan's Republic of Ireland played two friendlies on Tuesday against an FAI/ETB XI and Drogheda United, in preparation for the upcoming UEFA Under-19 European Championship Elite Round phase in Russia.

Both games took place in the FAI National Training Centre, with the afternoon selection defeating the FAI/ETB side 2-1, before the evening selection drew 1-1 with Drogheda United.

Mohan used two separate starting lineups in both games, as he looks to finalise his squad for the upcoming games against Romania, Azerbaijan and Russia in late March.

In the opening match, captain Richard O'Farrell and Colm Whelan both scored in the second-half to give Mohan's side the win.

Hours later, the Under-19 side drew 1-1 with Drogheda United in the FAI NTC. Callum Ross-Lynch scored the goal to make sure the Republic of Ireland Under-19s ended the day unbeaten.

No Jordan McEneff of Arsenal or Kian Clarke of Rovers either. Strange.

Dont think Mohan is too keen on McAuley. They had a falling out at u17s. Onpy way to explain it. Hes scoring goals and starting fairly regualr for Liverpools u23s.

With the promotions to u-21, McAuley's omission and Collins' injury they are missing 6 of the starting 11 from the team that beat Holland in the first round. I think they'll find it very tough this week.
Can understand Kenny wanting to work with the four lads early but it's jeopardized the chances of us playing in a top quality tournament this  summer. All for one game against Luxembourg. Wrong call for me.
Geremi has let Kilbane in here, cross comes out to Holland, 1:1!!

Weird to see Smallbone and Connell in this group, and Johansson and McEneff not in here. Even without Parrott, Idah et al, this is a strong age group
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Johansson is ineligible, he's already played for Luxembourg in the same competition

What's the story with Tyreke Wilson at Man City? Is he injured?

Ah - thanks. Hopefully he’s on standby for the U21s

He has featured for City in in PL2 recently, so I don't believe so.

Glen McAuley at Liverpool is another player who's been overlooked at every level. Very strange. If you look at England's successful underage teams the players selected are mainly at clubs like Chelsea/Liverpool/City, etc. You don't see them, seemingly perversely, ignoring players at the top clubs in favour of those at a lower level.

Tomorrow's game against Romania kicks off at 9am Irish time.
Was having a look through recent results for Romania, Russia and Azerbaijan.
None of them came through particularly difficult groups - the Romanian's scraped through on four points from a group containing Greece, Bulgaria and Gibraltar.
Russia drew 1-1 with Latvia, before beating both Cyprus and Montenegro 2-0.
With a full squad I think we'd arguably breeze through this group but it is very hard to know how we'll get on with a makeshift squad.
Fear the Russian's may get the better of us on goal difference with us both finishing on seven points.

The likes of Connell, McGunniess and O'Farrell all on the bench would suggest serious strenght in depth along with Parrott, McAuley, Idah, Collins,  Connolly, Obafemi and O'Connor not even in squad.
