Ahead of who? We only ever name 3 or 4 central defenders. Duffy and Egan are nailed on. Coleman has been playing RCB of a back 3 in recent games. O'Shea was nailed down before his injury, hes just coming back to full fitness and should be ready for March. Omabamidele and Collins havent played much club football this season buts havent put a foot wrong for us when given the chance. If anyone was to come into the squad ahead of any of the above it'd probably be Darragh Lenihan rather than Dunne. Dunne is extremely unfortunate theres just so much competition in the position that he probably wont get a chance any time soon.

In future Gary, please do a quick search before starting a thread on a player. As you can see, the lad already has a 16 pager to his name.

Having a great season so far at QPR. Very impressed with his performances over the last few months. A real fans favourite Playing centrally in QPR's back 3
"Jimmy Dunne is magic, He wears a magic hat,
And if you throw a brick at him he’ll head the f*ckerback!
Our new Alan Macca,
he’ll make you look like sh*te,
And when we get promoted,
We’ll sing this song all night!
Woooaaahhhh..." |

Well done to him. QPR in the playoff places and he's contributing significantly to that. Similar with Lenihan at Blackburn who are up to second now and he's their star defender as well. And yet it's hard to make a case for either being in the Ireland squad when everyone is fit and available.
Just scanning across the League tables there I reckon there are at least 25 Irish centre backs that have played in the top three divisions in England or the SPFL this season. And I've probably missed some out. Must be some kind of record.

wasn’t great first half but had a very solid 2nd half. He will definitely make the sagas soon and is still only 24.

It's a position we are so well stocked in. Duffy and Egan will only be turning 30 next year. You've got Collins, O'Shea and Omobamidele who I think will be premier league regulars for years to come and then others like Dunne and McGuiness who you'll hope will make top championship defenders. And then you've got lads who'll be breaking through over the next few years. Edited by J89 - 21 Oct 2021 at 1:42pm |

Fair Play to the lad. He was one of the better players at his age group up to 15s and then went United but seemed to regress and wasn't in international squads between then n 21s.
I'd say he must be very strong mentally and good belief in his ability. Comes from strong GAA background in Blackrock Louth. He will have or is having a good career but how high a standard that will be ??

A clean sheet too after being left out at the weekend. We are pretty stacked at CB currently, but the lad looks like he is on his way to establishing himself as first choice at a decent Championship level club. That would have been his first goal, now he needs to hold on to that spot and if he continues to play regularly then he will get a chance to make future squads. Just turned 24, so plenty of time for him and its always good to have options playing at a decent level.
