Bray not paid their players by the deadline, strike to follow.
Limerick not paid their players again, balloting for strike tomorrow. Could have a situation next weekend where one in five teams are on strike and two out of five games won't be going ahead. (Bray v Cork & Limerick v Waterford) Completely farcical and makes a mockery of the league, the FAI and the licensing. Hard to see what they can do to sanction us, banning the Mulvey and O'Connor's from having anything to do with LOI would be a good start.

To add to the Bray players potentially going on strike it now appears the players from Limerick will also be going on strike.
What an absolute mess the league is in. The licensing shown up for the farce it is. If the FAI hand out a license to the club it should be the equivalent of them acting as guarantors should the club renage on any of the terms that meant the club got the license in the first place. Until a system like that is in place then the FAI will continue to hand out a license to any club that come looking for one and have notions of throwing money around and not be caught out. If the FAI start acting as guarantors only then will we see the true financial reflections of clubs as the FAI will immediately get strict on the licensing system.

As for the sanctions, what sanctions was there really to impose?
1) Fine them money, sure the club has no money. 2) Dock them points, sure the club's finishing last anyway and probably have no players to fulfil a fixture anyway. 3) Throw them out of the league, club will probably fold anyway in the next couple of weeks.

The only way the FAI will consider taking this seriously will be if every club goes on the picket

Would be great to see, but would the top four clubs be up for it. FAI need the national league so the national team can compete in competitions, two clubs striking doesn't bother them because they'll just replace them but if all clubs strike and threaten to not compete the FAI will have to actually take notice and do something.

Bray are an upgraded LSL club to facilitate the LOI expansion to a 2 tier league in 1985. Eventually most of those teams fall by the wayside. Bray don't have the fan base to support the running of a LOI top tier team in 2018. Limericks on the other hand do have a population to support a top division club. Limerick have always been susceptible to fans disappearing when results go awry. It's really up to the people of Limerick to decide if they want a club or not and are prepared to turn up to games. There are great lads on here who support both teams and i feel some sympathy for them.

Surprised to hear that about Limerick. They were getting big crowds at the start of the season , is that not the case now or are they simply spending above their means or the purse strings have been cut ? Sad news for the league and the image of Irish football.

Limerick will always be a mid first Divison team at best without investment, unless the club has investment they'll never be a top Divison team. Junior football is king in Limerick and there's big money floating about the junior game. If the plans of going part time that were discussed happens and they only cover players expenses then local junior clubs will be out bidding them for local talent in the mid west.
As one lad said to me whose been going to games since the early 80s, "If Limerick become a glorified junior team why would anyone pay €15 to watch them when they can go down the road to their local club and watch the same players for free now".

Apart from Bohs (opening game), Cork and Rovers no game has broken 1,000 fans and the Cork and Rovers game only broke the 1,000 mark because of away fans. Some fans didnt bother this year because of off the field sh*t and funds have dried up as the owner wants out (health problems and his family more or less making him retire imo as his own company was put into voluntary liquidation back in May) and from constantly over spending as he's sunk over €6 million into Limerick since 2010 so that bubble was always gonna burst without being top four.
