I googled forums to post my enquiry on, this and Boards.ie appeared..

Me and my partner will soon be relocating to Dublin for work, I'm looking at areas to rent in the 1500-1800 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment ideally.

Malahide/Portmarnock is top of the list as its the only costal area of the Dublin area we'd be familiar with. I've seen Baldoyle, Swords? Also does Tallagh's reputation live up to the reality.

Can anyone offer some advise on where is nice to live and have a look at.

Hugely appreciated,

FatFreddy

Where will your office be based? Would imagine knowing that will be fairly key to suggestions.

I'm from West Cork actually, although that is largely irrelevant to my views on Dublin, as I'm as likely to never set foot in either of them again!
Anyway, glad I caught at least one.

Howth and Sutton would be coastal but probably over the budget of 1500-1800 a month.

Perhaps look at Raheny area not too far from coast area depending on exact location but again closer you get the coast the higher the cost

Moved to Dublin 2 years ago (and leaving again in a few weeks). Me and my partner based ourselves in Skerries. A fantastic coastal town with althe amenities you may need. It's on the commuter belt and depending on where you both work you should be sorted by public transport. Malahide/Swords is half an hour away and you're not that far from the city too. I've thoroughly enjoyed staying here and will be sad to leave the place.

Downside would be availability and price but its definitely worth looking at

Catching what, the new poster is asked to consider suicide? Not a very friendly welcome, so I needed to give him some background info before he decides to never post on here again

Move up to Jobstown. It's mad cheap and the closer you are to danger the further you are from harm

You'd get a place in around Sutton West for approx 1200 pm, otherwise known as Darndale.

Sutton central is approx 4k pm. Crazy prices.

LOL, the answer to your question (FatFreddyMax is a curious handle) about Tallaght is like plenty of areas, good and bad in there.  You could do a lot worse once you don't rock up in Cushlawn Park.

Welcome to Baile Átha Cliath anyhow and good luck with your gaff hunting.

I agree with PM on a lot of things but his opinions on Dublin and Australians are beyond the pale.

Tallaght is grand but maybe avoid Johnstown, fettercairn, killenarden and Brookfield areas.

Also have a look at saggart, there are some nice apartments up that way and it's on the red luas line and it's a nice village and close enough also to the square, citywest shopping etc
