Ah right, that makes since. I haven't actually looked at either draw but I should have realised that diabetes FC were in the Champions League.

Think Tallaght would have been a better option especially since its probably gonna be Shkëndija, Thomond is gonna be like playing in the RSC but with far bigger stands and 15,000 seats to fill.

Cork could have scored with a bit of luck but out of their depth in Europe

Really disappointing result tonight. Rosenborg's first goal was a complete sucker punch, and their second killed the game off, with Griffin very poor for both of them. The second half was better, but not getting a goal back will come back to haunt City; I can't see us scoring 3 goals in Norway. Tonight's result is a stark reminder of just how far off the LOI is from most of the other league's in Europe.

Yeah was at the game last night. Hate to pick on a player but Griffin was turned inside out by their 17, totally had his number. Tie was dead after the first goal. Seemed most of the second half Rosenborg were just happy to let City have the ball, didn't look worried if they conceded one or two. Sadlier looked very impressive when he came on.

3 games in Europe now for City this year. 0 goals scored, 6 conceded

Very disappointing alright, they are no great shakes and won easily in the end. Cummins really is a long way off the level required against sides like this, Griffin was all over the place for the two goals, as was McNulty.
Too many City players afraid of the ball as well, afraid to take responsibility.

City played quite well and enjoyed more purple patches than Rosenborg without creating a whole lot of chances. The first goal was completely against the run of play and really sucked the life out of the game. Rosenborg were very professional from there and in truth it was probably more likely to end 3 or 4 nil that 1-2 as City pushed at the end.

Really disappointing Euro campaign against 2 top sides, it might have been of some benefit to play in EL2 to pick up a win but I guess we managed to ease the fixture congestion in the league.

Sadlier was good when he came on but offers no protection for the weak Griffin at left back. Hopefull Dunleavy has a few games in him at LB as Griffin just isn't up to it and has been poor all season. The decision to loan Kane out is baffling and there must be some story to it. He was MOTM against Dundalk in the cross, was subbed off at half time the following Monday in a horror night at Tallaght and was barely ever seen again.

Another disappointing result for Cork in Europe does not help the co-eff. Luckily not all doom and gloom, our other representatives managed some wins between them which gets us a few points. Cork might pick up something in Norway next week.
I see Derry's win in Belarus was franked somewhat by Minsk's result this week, a 4-0 win over Zenit.

The co-efficient matters very little these days as it only gets adopted by clubs who's individual coefficient is less than the leagues.

I think it is still used by the youth competitions.

Brian Kerr fairly scathing about our sides' European performances.

Looks like a new third tier competition could be introduced in 2021, with a reduction of spots in the Europa League. Could let an Irish team compete in Europe again, but not sure there would be much money or prestige with this third tier comp.

They've already shut the door on the CL and now they'll do the same for the EL where it'll be Sassuolo Vs. Bournemouth instead of a semi-decent chance for domestic champions to compete at a higher level.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if UEFA announced a tiered format in European football when this new tournament is unveiled, with the Champions League for the likes of England, Germany and Spain, while we fight it out with the minnows of Europe for a spot in this tournament.

This will almost certainly happen in some format, those lads are only concerned about selling TV rights, and the EL in its current format is probably too bloated for them to attract what Uefa would define as decent TV money. Tightening it up a bit and reducing the lower quality teams in it would probably help them from that point of view.

As usual, it will be sold to the minnow associations as something positive, but it is hard to know whether it is or not. In one sense, it won't be a lot different for Irish teams who will still be playing lads from Luxembourg, Lithuania, Slovenia etc, but there will probably be reduced money for it, while the chances of repeating what Shamrock Rovers or Dundalk did in relatively recent years evaporate completely.

The whole notion of cup football & being able to draw anyone, like Shams V Spurs or Dundalk V Zenit in the EL or Cork V Bayern back in the day will be a thing of the past. Given where our domestic game is at the moment, its probably not too much of a bad thing in general as our teams will play others on something of a level playing field, but in the bigger picture, now that the CL has effectively been ringfenced for the very elite clubs, it is mainly further ringfencing by shutting off entry to the tier below that.

Presumably it will have a similar relationship with the EL as the EL does with CL, in that the winners get to play in the following years higher competition, but I don't think that will be a concern for followers of Irish LOI teams.

Picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.....
