I think that would speak to Bhob's point that if the first act wasn't deemed as constituting a tackle, and the second was, that would make all the difference. Or alternatively and more likely the referee didn't spot the touch?

Either way, pre-VAR there is no penalty.

Ref didn't spot the touch. There must be a replay that shows that there was a touch, more clearly than the two he saw.

Took over a minute to go to VAR too long if you ask me should have gone straight away if he was unsure

France should sack Deschamps now and give themselves a chance. He is way out of his depth.

France not looking very good and you can already see the players giving out to each other and complaining with every misplaced pass.

Would love to see Australia get a result but the French will probably get another.

Get another based on what? They've created absolutely nothing and got a pen for their goal

Yeah, one outlier is the reason they wouldn't have seen that! There was no debate about whether it was over the line at all.

I hate comparing, but I can't help but look at some defensive setups and realise how poor to watch,  our own one is. There is a finesse (of sorts) about the way Australia and Iran setup over the past two days which makes me believe that we could play just as effectively which actually pushing forward with the ball on the ground.

Now, I may be forgiving a particularly poor French performance, but I would love is to set up like that Australian team, if we are going the defensive route.

I don't get how people are saying it isn't a penalty.

Yes the initial tackle gets the ball.

Griezmann then gets the next touch controlling the ball is that caught  by Risdon, had he not been caught Griezmann would have had a chance to shoot hence a penalty.
