We have no technically competent midfield players. You can dress up where they play all you like, we have nobody to do the basics. What we would give for a Matt Holland or Mark Kinsella now!

Constantly blaming the players is a cop out.

We have multiple players playing at the highest level.

Some of these Mexican players are playing for LA Galaxy ffs.

Mexico are light years ahead of us! Just shouting about the bestestest league in the world is a far, far bigger cop out. We need to embrace reality!

Yes they are, since they are going out and doing the basics right.
Pass, move etc...

Something we can't do.

And they can do that because they are vastly superior technically. Irish players at EPL clubs are not signed for their techniques.

I bet their fans are able to move on after a defeat unlike ours too.

Mexico would have technically better and naturally skillful players than us. Football is their national game and they have a proven record of constantly qualifying for the world cup. They've also a population of about 120 million. There should be no comparison with Mexico.

The 2nd half performance against the USA where we actaully played the ball on the ground with O'Dowda impressive in the middle has given me a glimmerv of hope that we might play a bit more on the ground in the Nations League but as PM has stated, we simply don't have the players to control a midfield and we're constantly dominated in that area.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Honestly, I dont think its unreasonable to discuss our situation in the context of the games and teams which have been relevant to us over the past season, and we will meet again in due course. Dont forget, we were 60 minutes away from reaching the World Cup finals before the roof caved in on us.

I actually think that Alan Judge could fulfil that technical role, if he stays injury free.

But I actually think if Rice could be cultivated as a DM, Robbie Brady be utilised on the left wing, and McCarthy is given a slightly more advanced role alongside Arter/Judge, with somebody on the right wing in the McGeady mould (taking your point that we do lack for technical midfielders, we could actually do quite well with the ball at feet.

big issue for England and ourselves is that we have work horses or runners in midfield.  Their work horses and runners play at a higher level than our lads.

They have no one who controls a game by keeping possession and either do we.
AKA pedantic kunt
