Opposition which caused the £600m sale of Wembley to collapse is "bizarre" and led by "old men", says ex-Football Association chairman Greg Dyke.

"The council is living in the past, as it always has done," .

"If I'd been chairman, I would have said it is the board's decision."

I think in the long term it was good that it wasnt sold from the FA's point of view.

It's great to get money in and keep the 300m hospitality rights but to lose a national stadium where cup semi finals and finals are also played at would have had a huge back lash in the coming years.

According to reports the sale of Wembley may not happen because of bitter divisions between the English FA hierarchy and grass roots counterparts.

I can’t imagine it would go down well with fans going to the JP Morgan dome!

There has been an existing naming rights deal in place with "EE" for a while.

I dare say the FA will be pissing their pants at this, dare say been on a massive piss up since it was announced.

Great deal for the FA.
Great deal for England fans as the venue will have to be somewhere else in August/September.
And Wembley will hardly be used anyways as Jaguars have got a long-term on to play games at Spurs' new stadium.

Jaguars trying to create a brand as 'The NFL team in England' is all it is.

It's Sep - Dec I'm pretty sure, ie regular NFL season.

It's Kahn trying to move his team to London, 8-11 games per season, not just the one or two.

Jaguars don't have a deal with Spurs the NFL do. Jags have a deal to play in London

I believe the FA didn't own the old stadium, so don't see the big deal in selling it.

Very strange decision to sell the stadium? Surprised the government hasn't stepped in on historical and cultural grounds - I presume it's been sold at a loss and that public money was used to pay for some of it?

An absolutely fine specimen of a stadium.
Gotta hand it to the Germans.

Would it not be becuase a lot of people aren't fans of the "New Wembley" ?
