Spare a thought for the Irish in the 6 this morning. Same sex marriage and abortion are now legal down here and across the water.

Time to repeal the border the next.

My reference to bandwagon is not for the decision it is for the people who are using the 8th as a platform for themselves on social media

So what bandwagon are they hopping on if they vast majority had already formed their opinion.  You hardly think social media is a bandwagon at this stage as it has been around for years and people have used it for many issues including political ones. Not sure where the bandwagon element is.

There's a serious cohort of ultra-conservative Catholics up there that are as bad as the DUP in their own way.

You'd expect political movement from Sinn Fein and the SDLP on this over the next few years, but I think any change is decades away.

Norn Iron will remain Western Europe's version of Alabama for a long time yet.

The dynamic is so different up there - it's very similar to the US, in that cultural, tribal politics reign supreme.

The No campaign thought they could win with Trump-style tactics down here - they were so, so wrong, and it's so, so heartening to see them fall flat on their face.

Looking like Donegal could be the only county to return a No vote ☹

Back in 1983 the county voted 85% in favour of the 8th so a moral victory by the yes campaign to have the vote as close but it's still disappointing to see this great county vote this way

I’m not so sure. There was an opinion poll done recently for either LucidTalk or the Belfast Telegraph which showed that when you exclude the don’t knows there was a majority in favour of some sort of reform

I think it is fair to say that YBIG should be installed as the new Irish political bellwether ahead of the blow ins such as the RTE or Irish Times Exit polls. We predicted a 65% Yes vote fookin weeks ago.

the people have spoken - convincingly. a remarkable victory margin - which will no doubt help in the period that follows. lets hope now sensible abortion provisions are introduced.

Donegal going to be the only county to return a No vote 52% to 48% is the predicted outcome

Must remember South Donegal is included in the Sligo leitrim constituency and it voted 62% yes so them votes would most likely of been enough to see donegsl return a yes vote (the constituencys were changed before the last election)

So if they aren't in regulatory alignment with the rest of the UK over abortion then whats the big deal about a customs union different from the rest of the UK?

North Donegal though is still living in the dark ages. No coincidence that it was the only place to reject this, its a pocket of Ireland far removed from the rest, geographically and ideologically. They have a way to go yet up there.

Wouldn't have made any difference on final counts

I come from north Donegal and voted yes as did so many others like me. In 1983 Donegal voted 85% in favour of the 8th amendmnt today it won with a 52% share of the vote so the county has come on a great bit since then

Alot of young Donegal people would have voted elsewhere yesterday as they are studying and working in other areas. If South Donegal was still included the outcome would have been extremely close which should also be remembered (although I believe no would of still just edged it)

I'm disappointed by the result but still proud to cone from this county and proud of the women and men who have campaigned for this over the last 2 years and shared their personal stories along the way.
