Massive game for the U17s in elite qualifying against Georgia at 16.30 today.

Win the match and we qualify for the European Championships.

This is because the 7 best second placed teams of the 8 groups qualify for the tournament. Belgium have finished their group already and have 1 point in the second place table. Only games against the teams who finish first and third count.
We already have 3 points from beating Macedonia. If we beat Georgia, we will have at least 3 points on the table, even if Georgia finish last, or Macedonia, or indeed Poland (in which case we'd have 6 points on the second place table.
There is no way we can't finish at least 2nd if we win today, as Georgia and Poland drew in the first game.

Ireland go into the game as 3rd highest seed of the 32 teams in elite qualifying, Georgia are 23rd.
And Portugal and Germany are ranked 1st and second as they qualified automatically, so Ireland actually were the highest seeds after the first round of qualifying.

Yeah its half time. 40 mins away from the Euros, provided they don't concede twice (40 min halves at u17).

Poland 1-0 up in the other game, which has little bearing on things right now.

As it stands if we draw with Poland the next day we'll win the group and be in Pot 1 in the finals draw. Pot 1 teams are drawn into positions 1 and 2 in the groups. The worst group winners end up in Pot 2, but as long as we win the group from here, we will finish ahead of Sweden on points and Switzerland on goal difference (at least) and probably a few others by the time qualifying is over. We have enough points already if we hold out against Georgia, but unless Macedonia get an equaliser against Poland, we'll need a result in the next game to finish first.

We'll see how this plays out first.

Outstanding U17 team at the moment.

Great achievement. They topped their elite group last year and a point against Poland will see them repeat that this year. Colin T doing a super job.
Geremi has let Kilbane in here, cross comes out to Holland, 1:1!!

Brilliant stuff, will any of this years team be eligible for next year? We’re hosting the 2019 tournament and will hopefully have a strong team.

Very encouraging to see our underage teams doing. Hopefully it can continue and we can see some of them make the step up to the senior squad in a few years.
