Slightly off topic... much is is rightly made if Scotland’s won in Sofia but they also beat Belgium at Hampden the previous month. Scotland were out of contention before that game so those 2 wins really did us huge favours. Did Scotland have a change of manager mid qualifiers?

We didn't.

Alex Ferguson's last game in charge was on June 13th 1986 against Uruguay at the World Cup. He took over after Stein's death with the strict understanding it would only be for the warm up matches and the World Cup itself. After that he would depart.

Andy Roxburgh was subsequently appointed manager and his first game as manager was against Bulgaria on September 10th 1986.

Italy, Changed my mind Spain

Argentina had not brought a change kit so had to borrow a set of yellow shirts from the host club, IFK Malmö.

Apparently they had a brilliant team but didn’t play in the previous 3 World Cup for various reasons.
