Champions League: Hoffenheim eliminated in qualifying round. Dortmund looking very unlikely to qualify from groups. Leipzig with a proper battle to get out.

Good change only Bayern (after going back to a 72-year-old manager) will be in the knockout stages.

Europa League: Hoffenheim, Koln and Hertha all bottom of their groups with a total of 1 draw and 5 losses out of 6 games.

While it may still throw up a few entertaining games at times, fair to say the German clubs are having a stinker of a season.

I think in terms of co efficient, Bayern have been propping the Bundesliga up for a long time would a little help from Dortmund for a few years. The likes of Schalke have often gone a round or 2 in the CL knockouts, but not many other German sides in the past decade have made much impression in Europe.

Can't remember many at all doing much in the Europa/Uefa. Even the Italian sides seem to go deeper than them in that.

In terms of Europe itself, there's clearly a huge shift happening. The English sides have finally got their houses in order. They always had huge wealth, but now they actually have top quality management there. If everything stays settled at those clubs in the next 2/3 seasons, even the likes of Bayern could be trailing them, let alone Dortmund and others.

Not brilliant in the EL tonight either:

Zorya Luhansk 2 v 1 Hertha Berlin
Hoffenheim 3 v 1 Istanbul Basaksehir
BATE Borisov 1 v 0   1FC Koln

Does that mean the "score" to date is: Played 9,  Won 1,  Drawn 1,  Lost  7?

Add to that the Champions League - Pl. 9  W. 3  D. 2  L. 4

Total: Played 18, Won 4, Drawn 3, Lost 11

Bundesliga has dropped behind Serie A in the UEFA coefficients as well, not that it matters any more.

The majority of Bundesliga clubs have zero debt, not to mention the alarming rate of exceptional young talent being churned out by clubs.

If/when the Sky bubble burst's a healthy number of English clubs are going to be in a hell of a lot of trouble!

Is it next season that the top 4 leagues are guaranteed 4 CL places each? I can see the German league falling down a bit over the next 2/3 years and the French pushing up a bit possibly. Think Serie A and the PL will go well ahead of the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future in the rankings. The old guard in Italy and England are on the way back with money behind them and better management aboard all round.
