They're all fixed price, at least on the direct trains - about €50. You might save money by changing in Malmo. The website you want is sj.se but the cheaper tickets for June only go on sale 90 days out, so they're not on sale for another month or so. If you are happy enough to arrive in Gothenburg at 16:50 on the Sunday, you might be able to get it cheap enough.

Actually scratch that - it seems you can book it now. You can definitely book Malmo to Gothenburg direct on sj.se now, and then you can just get a single from Copenhagen to Malmo when you are there. The single from Malmo to Gothenburg is 195 SEK at the minute, and the Copenhagen to Malmo bit is a fixed price 122 SEK. That works out a fair bit cheaper than the 500 SEK direct. The rate is about 10:1 so it's a saving of about €18.

By the way, Ryanair fly direct back to Dublin from Gothenburg the day after the game if anybody is still looking for a route back.

With that flight currently at €55 and the train just over €30, it's not a bad deal. There's a 13:01 train from Malmo to Gothenburg that arrives at 15:20, way more than enough time for the 20:05 flight. It is currently 195 SEK for that train, which is about €19. Add on the €12 for the Copenhagen - Malmo train (takes 40 minutes, goes every 20 minutes) and it's a healthy saving over the €50 walk up fare for the direct train all the way to Gothenburg. Plus it actually works out quicker compared to the direct train, which stops a lot more. Add on the cost of the bus from the station to the airport (99 SEK, under €10, every 15 minutes from the train station, takes 30 minutes) and you've got a route home for under €100. The main bus station in Gothenburg is right by the train station. Book the flight on www.ryanair.com and the Malmo-Gothenburg train on www.sj.se and you can get the Copenhagen-Malmo train ticket and Gothenburg airport bus ticket when you are there. There's no advance saving for either of those, although you can buy both in advance as well, train ticket on www.sj.se and bus ticket on www.flygbussarna.se/en. The only issue is that it is a long day: 12:07 Copenhagen to Malmo 12:46 13:01 Malmo to Gothenburg 15:20 17:30 Gothenburg to Gothenburg Airport 18:00 20:05 Gothenburg Airport to Dublin 21:15 Getting the direct train for a few extra euro, an hour and a bit later, might be worth it: 13:27 Copenhagen to Gothenburg 17:10 17:30 Gothenburg to Gothenburg Airport 18:00 20:05 Gothenburg Airport to Dublin 21:15 Obviously, aside from the extra cost, the downside to that is that it is tighter in terms of catching the flight. The first option also has the upside that if you somehow miss the 13:01 train from Malmo to Gothenburg, you can still get home cheap enough, albeit you'll have to buy an extra train ticket for about €40. However, two things: while the Copenhagen - Malmo ticket might be good for a later train the same day, that cheap Malmo to Gothenburg one is not. Also, if you completely screw up and miss the 13:27 train from Copenhagen, you're fecked. |

Nice one SD. Booked the flight earlier this week and knew about the trains, just didn't know he cheapest ticket situation so cheers for that. Was planning on getting the 1pm from Malmo and having a quick look around Gothenburg when we get that far.

Just booked Stuttgart-Copenhagen, flying in the day before and back the morning after. Flights were cheap but Christ Copenhagen is expensive to stay in!

I'm staying in Nørrebro. Literally it was a case of finding the cheapest place that wasn't a complete dump (ironically called Sleep in Heaven). As far as I remember from the WC playoff it's pretty central, so was pretty happy.
