My Twopence for what its worth, we live in a sporting society where gambling is so easy in particular with smartphones etc.., There are super saturation of gambling advertising around sporting events throughout all forms of media and while sporting organisations are willing to accept sponsorship from bookies they are not helping there members who may have gambling problems now I accept that is no reason to cheat during a game either that spectators pay money to view.
This year the league of Ireland first division has one promotion place and no relegation and eith the FAI excluding a playoff position it makes all most every game in the division a dead rubber, these players earn pittence so it encourages gambling and i reckon the first division is one of the most corrupt leagues in western europe have got wind of a few beauties myself down through the years. Now we also have the issue of club licencing where it seems all kind of cowboys are allowed run clubs gone are the days when you had peiople like Olllie Byrne running clubs with the best interst of the club at heart but guess what the FAI didnt like people like that either because they felt they were outspoken and added to the "problem child" way of thinking. There are plenty of good football people in this country not working proffesionally in football that could aid the game here, names like Brian Kerr, Damien Richadson, Pat Dolan ( I know he still makes his living through football related activity) Im sure there are plenty more too spread around the country. |

For the sake of Irish football you would nearly hope the Elgin City match was thrown!

Bit surprised two wins are on it, must have been down to goals. Was at three of the matches, can't say I noticed anything. Missing tonight's game, first one all season while I've been in Ireland. Was touch and go as to whether I was going as have loads on but this has decided it, not paying to watch lads who've (apparently) thrown matches.

Any word on the Bray situation? I read something online that there was a terrible attendance for the end of season awards. Virtually no players there at all. What's the story for next season, will they even get a Premier licence?

Only 6 players in the pics anyway, Greene being one of them and Cherrie another, the rest are local lads. Was at it last year and they all went.
God knows what will happen over the break

With the owner desperate to convince the authorities that the Carlisle grounds would look better as a load of apartments rather than a sports ground, maybe having no football team playing there might assist his argument.

Who would take Galway's place in the FD then? I doubt the FAI would be happy with a 9 team division (although they may have no choice) |
