The Prime Minister was nearly crying on television earlier and not Eamon Dunphy nearly crying, actually nearly crying.

The speed that the fires spread sound scary. People on the news saying it was like one big massive explosion coming towards them. no wonder people dont get a chance to get out the way.

Hard to find the people who started them. Not trying to be smart but all the evidence is probally inexistent now anyway.

You would think that but these fire investigation people are freaks at uncovering stuff. Obviously they wont find everyone that started the fires but a couple of symbolic arrests would do. The gobsh*tes that lit any of the fires are the type to go and tell all their mates what they've just done and then a couple of hours later they realise, oh sh*t!

Australia hunts Arson 'murderers'

Quote Australia has launched its largest ever arson probe as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd vowed to track down the perpetrators of the "murder on a grand scale".

A special taskforce of 100 officers is combing through a blackened landscape searching for clues as the death toll from the nation's worst bushfires looks likely to top 200.

The disaster area, more than twice the size of London and encompassing more than 20 towns north of Melbourne, has been declared a crime zone by officials.

At least 181 people have been confirmed to have died in the fires.

Mr Rudd said a further 500 have been left injured while nearly 1,000 homes were destroyed and 902,000 acres burnt in land owned by 25 local government authorities.

"We are left speechless at the thought and the possibility that some of these fires may have been deliberately lit," the leader told the Australian parliament.

"This is simply murder on a grand scale.

"Let us attend to this unfinished business of the nation and come to grips with this evil thing."

US President Barack Obama telephoned Mr Rudd to offer his condolences and help in fighting the blazes.

More than 30 firefighters from the US are flying to Victoria State to reinforce the effort on the ground.

Other offers of help and support from around the world include a private donation from Queen Elizabeth II.

Buckingham Palace declined to specify the size of the donation, which will go to the Victorian Bushfire Fund.

Her Majesty has expressed "heartfelt condolences" to the families of those who died, "deep sympathy" to those who lost their homes, and paid tribute to the "extraordinary" efforts of the emergency services.

Australia's national cricket team is visiting one of the towns lying in the path of the bushfires.

Captain Ricky Ponting said he and his team wanted to "get in and help out where we can" upon arrival in Whittlesea, Victoria State.

In devastated Kinglake, Ross Buchanan risked his life to save his home, only to find his 15-year-old son McKenzie and daughter Neeve, nine, had been killed as fire ripped through the rest of the town.

"I've lost two kids, nothing can bring them back," he told Sky News Australia.

The mounting number of bodies has forced authorities to set up a temporary morgue in Melbourne which has so far admitted 101 victims.

Exhausted firefighters, most of them volunteers who have had little rest since the wildfires flared on Saturday, continue to fight to save communities in the path of the flames.

Healesville, about 31 miles north east of Melbourne, is the latest community threatened by the fires, which has razed entire towns.

Fair play to the Australian cricket team for going to help out. Clap

It's tragic. We are so blessed that we never suffer from bush fires, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves etc. Really dont know how lucky we are.
