8 teams who third or fourth seeds finished top two in the 2016 qualifiers.

Now, they're not quite the same thing, but the possibility is there, regardless, that the worst sides in League B might not make the playoffs. And even then, the playoffs are a one in four shot, with a possible 90 minute game away from home at the end.

We need to be second seeds to minimise the chances of being in the playoffs (I mean by maximising the chances of qualifying directly), and we need to finish top two in the nations league to give us the best possible chance of being in the playoffs if it does come to it.

Finishing top two is absolutely vital.

Agree it is certainly possible.  Remember if it happens then we can be the 2nd worst 3rd and still get  a playoff.  Also 4 of the 3rd seeds will come from League B.

The draw will tell a lot but that is a year away.  As of now Serbia in league C look likely qualifiers.  The likes of Romania, Greece, Slovenia Hungary Scotland etc have a good chance.

I definitely agree our best chance is via the qualifiers.  I wouldn't fancy our chances of 2 one off wins needed in a short period of time.  However those playoffs do keep our campaign alive most likely until March 2020.

Wouldn't massively fear any of the teams form Pot 1 tbh.

Pot 3 not Turkey or Denmark/

A nice Prague and Bratislava double header would be nice

So Ukraine and Russia can't be drawn together so that means it's a 1 in 3 chance of getting them

@Irish2011- Yep, it is 3 teams per group, so 4 fixtures across 6 international dates, which leaves 2 free for other friendlies or training camps or B internationals or Oman, twice.

This isn't an exciting prospect. As for the football, it's nearly all the same who we draw, the results will be as follows, not sure in which order- Home nil all draw, Away one nil win, Home one nil loss, Away one all draw. Teams not particularly important, those are more or less our standard set of results no matter who we play, particularly those ranked in and around 15 places of us, of which all those teams are.

Probably enough to get 2nd on a low points tally, then wait for the qualifiers and endless permutations after we finish 3rd in that, narrowly. In the actual qualifiers, we will manage to score 2, or even 3 goals, against one of the 2 bottom seeds at home, probably remain unbeaten away except for the top seeds, but mainly draw away and at home, as well as losing at least one home game, if not 2. Will be in the fight for 2nd for most of the group, but no hope of winning it.

All the while, some will convince themselves that we are better than, say, Slovakia, because we have more EPL players than them. This will remain unproven, as the 2 games will end in a draw.

It is broke, friendlies aren't worth anything; low crowds, rested players and crap football. This can't be any worse.
