window.post_1482527400171_16 = function(win, msg){ win.postMessage(msg,"*"); } Chris was reliable and dependable for Ireland the 1 0 win against England sticks out and he had his best club career with Celtic making 158 appearances for the Bhoys.

Not in rhe same class as Denis Irwin but a good servant for Ireland.

Remember him being in the studio alright, remember him being told that it was some week for him making his debut and now going to the euros and he was playing down his chances of making the squad. Was at the game in Dalymount alright but the memories mustn't be that great seeing as it was Israel we played! Think we played Tunisia in Lansdowne the next year.

Good article on Chris Morris I just came across. You never hear too much about this lad who played in the best Ireland teams there have ever been.

What was he like as a player? Gary Neville solid but unspectacular or a bit better?

Didn't play a qualifier for Euro 88 yet managed to become first choice ahead of John Anderson and Davy Langan who didn't end up making the squad after playing most of the qualifiers.

Morris was decent throughout Euro 88 and in the qualifiers for Italia 90. People (including myself) used to moan a bit about his crosses but I remember sitting a boozer one night when the barman put on the highlights video for the qualifiers and he put some cracking balls in to be fair! Lost form during the euro 92 campaign and didn't feature in the WC 94 qualifiers after Terry Phelan came in. Morris was decent enough, Phelan was better though.

Morris was a right back and Phelan played on the left.

Denis Irwin took his place.  Chris was decent but Irwin was a much better player.

John Andersen was in the squad in 88 (number 19).  Davy Langan was injured I think but unfortunately virtually finished at that stage.    A fit Langan would have surely started.  Morris was better than Andersen imo.

Sorry, brain fart on Phelan, was Irwin of course.

Apart from playing in 120 degrees Fahrenheit against Mexico & being unjustly sent off against Liverpool at Anfield I don't ever remember Irwin having a bad game. Never seemed to get booked much and was excellent at winning the ball without seemingly having to make a tackle. He would have walked into any world XI in his mid-90s prime. Fergie said he was the best full back in Britain. Clap
