A police officer has been charged with the murder of former Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson who died after being tasered in 2016.

A second West Mercia Police constable has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH), the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated.

Paula hasn't had much dealing with the Great British police force, lucky for her.

Paula Quinn, a neighbour of Dalian Atkinson’s father, has asked some serious questions of police who are due to be investigated by the IPCC over the incident

I lived in one of the most dangerous cities in the world, Johannesburg, for years and I witnessed police brutality. But to see that from British police was shocking. We are better than that. I actually feel quite sick.

Dalian’s nephew has spoken at the scene. He has expressed anger at how the police have treated the incident. He is saying if a taser is deployed an ambulance should be called immediately.

Shame as he was a decent player and remember him scoring against us in 94 at Wembley :(
 
 
Police called and as already posted his father said he appeared high and agitated on something.
Police react as he continues to approach even though ordered not to and fire a taser subdue with resulting death.
 
Update seen elsewhere is that he was trying to kick the door in saying he was homeless and saying his father needed to let him in, which he didn't before police called,

Shocked to hear of the tragic death of Dalian Atkinson, scorer of one of the best goals in PL history. Was one of my favourite players when i started getting into football in the early 90's.Immensely talented player that had a bit of a topsy turvey career. Still a legend at Villa by all accounts.

His dad's comments. 

Today Ernest, 85, told how his son flew into booze-fuelled rage shortly before he was tasered by police.

Speaking yesterday from his home, he said: “He was in a real state.

“I don’t know if he was drunk or on drugs but he was very agitated and his mind was upset.

“The last thing he said to me was ‘don’t move’ when the police came to the door.

“He was threatening and very upset. I didn’t call the police but someone else did.

“He got tasered in the street outside in the road. I didn’t see him but I saw a flash. I haven’t had any sleep and cannot take it in.

“The police are dealing with this now.”

I would imagine that was the case, was very generous of the police to help a black man out.
Have any details like that been released?  All I've seen so far is that there was concern for his safety.  Bit early to be jumping to those conclusions isn't it?
Who will release the details? West Mercia police? I can assure you that the conclusions I have reached are very close to correct, I just hope that Atkinson's profile prevents them from squirming out of it. Highly unlikely though.

Awful news.

Wasn't a bad player and scored against United a few times. Very strong and quick from what I remember.

McGrath will be devastated as well I'd say as they both played at the same time for Villa I think.
