I used "give it the long finger" rather than "put it on the long finger" at work once.

Well, as long as you acknowledged your mistake relatively quickly and let people know what you really meant, it can happen to anyone.

if it's a catchphrase he uses, it could be a play on it. Cool, Calm and Collective makes sense if used in a business networking sense.

'On the team' instead of 'in the team'. 'On the weekend' rather that 'at the weekend'. Both annoying, US-inspired twattery. 

'Lay' rather than they 'lie', depending on context, is a particularly f**kwitted Americanism. You 'lie' on a bed not lay on it. You 'lay' a carpet.

One that always annoyed me is not by a long shot or is it not by a long chalk. I think both are correct but i always hated not by a long chalk.
