English manager
He is a “good” young player
Has a “difficult” decision to make
with Ireland at the “moment”

The bait has been laid.

I think he is gone. England getting to the World Cup semifinals and the whole country going mental was a massive event.
He has a chance of playing at World Cups with England. He would have had loads of people telling him all summer that he could be him in 4 years time.

I'm actually surprised we haven't seen many already Shodipo, Obafemi and Idah* are the only Nigerian eligible players (* not 100% if Nigerian) I can think off hand.

Have never heard of any Polish youngsters in the youth teams bar the Everton lad

LOL f**k him his bad teeth and his creepy top man waistcoat.

If Rice does defect at this late stage he will make us look absolutely ridiculous and deserves utter pelters if he lines out against us in an England game in the future - which i strongly predict he will not.

Grealish on the other hand we may meet again somewhere. There is a player in there somewhere, would trust Pocchetinos judgement on a player to at least be half decent.

We need to a) cap these young lads in competitive games even if some turn out to be rubbish or b) start asking questions aged 16 to avoid us being taken for a ride.

I mean what harm would it be throwing a Grealish or Rice on for 5 minutes as a 17/18 year old against a Moldova or Georgia. I know Wales would.

Gareth is just a friend from work who also likes Italian cinema
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Not a hope. Sure they'd have to go through FAI youth development structures.

There's no way they'd end up good enough to play for Poland and Nigeria then.

Well I'd assume that Rice has an English passport due him being English but would also have an Irish one due to him playing for us.

As he hasn't played a competitive match and has a passport already he'd only need FIFA clearance to play. Which I'd imagine could be done in a few hours/days if it really needed to.

I'd imagine at least one of the journalists who attends the press conference will ask Southgate about him anyway.

He would still need to change nationality and this would take a number of weeks.  If he decides to declare for England then it is very unlikely he could play this year for them.

However as in the case of Jack Grealish if he switches then he cannot return.

England squad named, but he never could have been in it.

However, Alex McCarthy has made the squad which shows dual eligible players that there is always a chance of playing for England.
