The brother was emigrating home from Australia last week - Got as far as Heathrow and his Aer Lingus flight was cancelled. They then couldn't find him in the system. Due to be on a flight from Heathrow at 2.30PM on Friday, eventually got back into Dublin at 10pm on Saturday. Still no sign of any bags.

He'll be waiting. Alot in transit in Heathrow aren't getting their bags when they get to Dublin.

Personally, I wouldn't be checking in bags anywhere if I could avoid it (your brother obviously couldn't avoid it). It'll be winter before airlines/ airports start getting a grip of things (if even that)

It'll die down mid Sept to mid Nov then be mental again over Xmas.

As much a I'd love to get away I just couldn't be arsed traveling at the moment.

If it’s going to be mental again at Christmas, the problem hasn’t been resolved.

Precovid, Dublin airport was one of the best in the world. Guaranteed only a few mins going through security, could always get a pint without queueing for half a day, it was clean, had a reliable transit facility, good reputation with businessmen and was clean.

They can talk about other airports, but problem in Dublin is solely down to mgt trying to cut corners and saving as much as they could throughout Covid. Even when things were picking up last year they delayed things by a couple of months in hiring staff.

They outsourced the cleaning and the airport is absolutely filthy. Would take a deep clean over a few weeks to get it respectable looking but then the issue is they’d have to keep on top of it.

They made a complete mess of the airport By being greedy which is an awful shame
Lets not forget that the FF/FG/GP government willingly signed off on mass redundancies despite warnings about what would happen.

It was completely idiotic, anyone on ground could see it a mile off - they were warned by union reps, etc but sure nobody listens to those that might actually understands what happens on the ground.

Costing them a fortune now, lads on old contracts getting treble time can’t believe luck, bringing in outside companies to help with outside queueing, etc - and nowhere near sorted yet

As well as being proud owners of the dirtiest airport in Europe award.

Somethings have to be checked. Or in some cases things are bulky enough that the 10kg bag isn’t enough to carry them. And when kids are involved, it’s a management thing. Equally transatlantic or long haul sometimes means packing for different types of conditions and climates.

Checking bags for weekends in London or Paris would seem a bit excessive, but I think there is a lot of times it’s worth packing a bag to check.

Tbf with babies/toddlers, I’ve always checked bags in. Though I do leave the packing to Mrs so was never in any position to say we should do otherwise Embarrassed

That's the job. The toothbrush packed in the front pocket of the jeans. Sink washed jocks hanging on the balcony to dry in the morning before coming back into rotation the next day. Sleeveless t-shirts to minimise the impact of the arm pit bang. One pair of flip flops so no socks needed. Take the hotel towels to the beach. Use everyone elses toiletries. Clap

2 week holiday and you are struggling without the big bags for the amount you take, need a buggy, car seats etc.

Having kids in the first place was probably the major mistake as opposed to checking the bags in, what was I thinking.

Ye but you were only driving by the airport on the way to Dundalk so no need to be checking in bags.

Staff calibre has nose dived. Nobody can afford to let the substandard go otherwise you simply have no business at all.

I got through baggage check in 10 mins for a Friday 4pm flight. The next day someone else was flying Saturday morning and it took over 2 hours! I have a 10am flight tomorrow. Is there a way to check how quickly you can get through - there are links for that info with other airports.

its spreading at least in England, was in a bar outside liverpool stood at the bar waiting to be served as the other person at the bar was getting served , guy comes up and asks are you in the queue ?

I said , 'dont know about a queue but i am waiting to get served '

was in a bar in london - long enough bar  - somebody getting served at the bar and some dozy girl standing behind them with a menu in hand  - the rest of the whole bar was free

Walked up and got served no bother

Dublin Airport App is very good for the real time situation. Probably not much use for you this close but for anyone else flying, it's worth looking what it's like at 10am the previous day or previous friday etc.
