Haven't been on since the win. Brilliant stuff. What a moment from the Donegal woman. She wouldn't even have been on the pitch had Payne not gone off injured just 6 minutes earlier. I don't think Payne would have scored that (I don't think she's actually a striker), it just had to be Barrett. Brosnan is a completely different player to 2 years ago. One of our top players through this campaign.

Just out of curiosity, is there an equivalent YBIG for the women's game, a YGIG? Also, wonder are there female members on the YBIG forum? Or is it just an all blokes forum pontificating on women's football?

How curious that in a long piece which attempts to contextualise the positions of all the differing strands of Irish opinion on this matter, the one group which is nowhere referred to comprises those one million of her fellow Irish people in the north east of the island who are most sensitive to such things. It's almost like eg writing a piece on racism without a mention of black people, or anti-Semitism with no regard for Jews. And when she refers to the growth of Republicanism in ROI amongst the young etc, it is ironic that that fondness for what would presumably be an all-Ireland Republic merely reinforces just how Partitionist so many Republicans in ROI really are, in that they don't even consider Northern Ireland, sorry, I mean the North. But I will say one thing, even amongst moderate, non-political Unionsits, this sort of response only hardens attitutdes against a UI, if so many Republicans are indifferent, even callous, towards the many thousands of victims, berevaed and traumatised of 30 years of savage IRA terrorism.

Oops, meant to include the following opinion piece which I admire, if only for the author's willingness to endure the usual West Brit/Unlce Tom abuse which such opinions usually attract: |

Ah Terri. That’s John McGuirk. Enough said. I’m annoyed that I even gave that article a click.

Lads firstly apologies, Terri obviously cant or refuses to understand a simple request. So I started to move his and subsequent posts to the politics thread and inadvertently deleted the initial post. Anyhow, as a result a lot of the following posts would be read out of comtext so Ive deleted everything.
A doff of the cap to Gone To Showgies, cracking post from you and indeed a few others. As stated above, we have a historical first world Cup appearance for our Women to look forward to. Although some would have them hung drawn and quartered, the vast majority would prefer to get behind our team.

I think this maybe the high point for the team, as we have a quite a few members of the team that may not even stick around for the next euros. There does not seem to be the talent coming through after Mccabe and connolly with a 5 to 6 year gap in age, Payne the only really young regular at the moment.
Caldwell, Fahy and O'Gorman won't be around for the next world cup and Louise QUinn probably won't be either. Megan Campbell would be questionable with her injuries as well.
The world cup will be the the end of the journey for many. |

There are quite a few talented players coming through who should become regulars. Abbie Larkin, Jesse Stapleton and Ellen Molloy to name just 3. This tournament will give huge exposure to women's football. We should also start to see the benefit of the underage leagues. This will also inspire many young girls (and young boys) to play football and dream of wearing the green shirt.
